MEMO To: From: Subject: Website document International REC Standard Foundation secretariat Retroactive device registration Introduction This document further explains how the Electricity Code deals with retroactive device registration. When registering a generation device that has been producing electricity for a decade, it is not possible to retroactively request issuance for a decade worth of I-RECs. But what is possible and how does it work? Retroactive device registration Once an organisation is registered as a registrant, it is possible to then register a production device and following registration of a production device to then request the issuance of I-RECs. Devices can be registered retroactively for a maximum period of 12-months (for example registration in December 2019 can be seen as if it was December 2018) but certificates can only be issued based upon the Residual Mix Deadline of May 15 Year X+1. Examples: You request device registration in February 2020. The device can be registered as if it was February 2019. You can then request issuance of certificates from February 2019 onwards. You request device registration in June 2020. This can be registered as if was June 2019. However, issuance can only be requested from January 2020 onwards (because June 2020 is after the May 15 2020 residual mix deadline). You request device registration in December 2019. This can be registered as if it was December 2018. However, you can only issue certificates from January 2019 because of the Residual Mix Deadline. Explaining Retroactive Registration Page 1/1
