PERFORMANCE TEST ADMINISTRATOR’S GUIDE 1. Performance tests are sample work situations deigned to assess a trainee’s knowledge and skill to perform a task by using actual equipment or training devices. To achieve this, test instruments (job sheets) and grading criteria tools, (checklist, rubrics, and grading scales) need to be designed and developed. 2. Prior to conducting performance testing (job sheets, also known as PCLs), students will be allotted sufficient time to adequately see the skill being performed, practice the skill and then perform the skill. 3. Performance testing under the Technical Assist Visit and Final Evaluation Project, and high risk training evolutions will be covered under a separate standard operating procedure. 4. Performance testing should be performed prior to knowledge testing. 5. Safety Precautions: a. Ensure that the scene is safe for all personnel. b. Floors and surfaces wetted must be carefully observed to ensure that personnel are NOT subjected to potential injury. c. Instructors shall IMMEDIATELY stop any event which may lead to unsafe conditions or may cause harm to any individual. 6. All scenarios and testing will be conducted within the schoolhouse. In some instances testing can be performed utilizing Basic Enlisted Submarine School facilities with prior approval from the Program Manager (i.e. Damage Control Trainer). 7. All equipment associated with the care of mock casualties and patient care will be made available to the students no later than one week prior to the commencement of the test. 8. Special Instructions: a. Performance testing will not interfere with the student’s lunch breaks which are normally from 1130-1230. b. Staff will ensure that an appropriate number of additional staff is obtained to test all students in the allotted time. Performance tests should be managed to prevent bottlenecks. c. Grading shall be completed using approved rubrics. Deviations to the approved rubric are not allowed. d. All graded evolutions must be completed and graded prior to debriefing students. Debriefing will occur immediately following the grading of the Job Sheet. e. Performance checklist/rubrics will be graded and turned in to the testing officer for the recording of grades. f. Academic Review Boards will be conducted at the conclusion of all testing events and only after students have been briefed on their results.
