SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ORAL COMMUNICATION I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: A. distinguish the different types of speech according to delivery; B. differentiate the four types of speeches according to delivery; C. proficiently deliver a speech in front of the class. Topic: Types of Speech According to Delivery Materials: Laptop, projector, pieces of paper with words and box, Skills to be developed: analyzing, time managing and critical thinking Time Span: 1 hour discussion References: PEAC Speak and Listen in Context an Oral Communication Textbook for Senior High School by Ana Marie O. Fernandez, pages 101-104 PROCEDURE A. Prayer B. Greetings C. Checking of attendance D. Review The teacher will ask the students to recall their previous discussion by sharing what they learned to the class. E. Motivation The teacher will play a short online video clip from TED Talks using a laptop and projector. The video will be about a 5 minute persuasive speech of a speaker that discusses one’s purpose in life. The students will be ask about their reflection and feeling about watching the video. F. Lesson Proper The teacher will present a video presentation from Youtube of speakers performing short speeches in different delivery methods. The students will be ask about their ideas on the differences between the speakers’ way of delivering the speeches. The teacher will do a lecture discussion about the types of speech according to delivery using a power point presentation. The teacher will flash additional speaking situation samples on the presentation and let the students determine the types of speech used in the example. The students will be ask to give more sample situations that requires each type of speeches and give their reasons about it. G. Generalization The teacher will ask the students to define the different types of speech according to delivery based from their understanding of the lesson. The teacher will sum up the discussion by recalling the meaning of each type of speech. H. Application Activity 1: Role Playing a) The students will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will portray a role play about different situations that uses the different types of speech delivery methods. Evaluation The students will be ask by the teacher to come in front and draw a piece of paper from a box. The strips contains current social issues, they will perform a 3 minute impromptu speech about the issue that they got in front of the class. J. Assignment Construct a written speech about the principles of effective speech delivery. The student will have to memorize their speech and shoot a video of themselves while performing it.
