POLITICS IN GHANA The fourth republican democracy of Ghana came into existence on January 1993, provides the fundamental chatter f or the country fourth attempt at republican democratic government since independence in 6th March 1957 by the master mind of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The fourth republican of Ghana portray Ghana as a military republic with sovereignty residing in the Ghanaian people. On the other hand the traditional African system of Government is a system in the pre-colonial era in which the authority of a ruling regime is largely tied to custom. Some of the points patterning to similarities of the fourth republican of Ghana and the traditional system of Government are as follows, To Begin with, rules and regulations. In the fourth republican of Ghana there is constitution where laws are obtained to govern the people within the country. Example, Article 21 of the 1992 constitution state that no person shall be derived of his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law. In the traditional system of government explicit laws use to regulate the demeanour of the people. Example, in the traditional system the Chief could say no one should embark on farming on a particular Moreover, Head of State. In the fourth republic there is one person predominantly called the president which performs both executives function such as formulation of policies and ceremonial functions such as receiving salute during 6TH March. In the Traditional system there is always one person called Chief or Monarch which enact laws to govern the within a society Furthermore, Council of Elders. In the fourth republic there is elders mostly called ministersa and members of parliament which assist the ruling government to implement its ambitions as government. Example, the Government of Ghana currently has implemented the E-levy through the help his members of parliament. In the Traditional society there is council of elders which assist the Chief to formulate and initiate laws. They also advise the Chief Again, Formation of pressure groups. In the fourth republic there is existence of pressure which criticize the policies of the ruling government in other to suit its members. Example, Ghana BAR Association. In the Traditional system of Government there is information of warrior squad which criticize the Chief from becoming a virtual dictator Last but not least, judicial function. In the fourth republic the Government settles cases (Criminal and Civil cases) through judicial bodies such as Court. In the Traditional system the Chief settle disputes and litigations among the people living in the society. Lastly, Military Functions. In the fourth republic it is the president who serve as the commander in Chief of Armed Forces. Example the commander in Chief of Ghana Armed forces is currently the Head of State (His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo). In the Traditional society the Chief leads walls to defeat their enemies In Conclusion the fourth republic and the Traditional system of Government has played major nrole in Ghanaian politics from the pre-colonial era up to date (Fourth Republic).
