SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
The SC4Node modular approach has a rapid response time.
As the application grows, the number of SC4Nodes increases and the IO mix adapts to the application needs.
Node connections are seamless; system performance remains constant despite the increase of the number of nodes and IOs.
The Ethernet connection capability between two SC4Nodes provides fast communication enabling the design of a
distributed and modular safety control system. Implement safety functions on a single Node or across multiple Nodes.

SC4NODE TOPOLOGY FOR ONBOARD
SC4Node is a SIL 4 Safety controller for rolling stock and signaling. This Safety controller
can be used standalone or as a network of controllers. The SC4Node controller is based on the
SC3 Automation Safety Product Platform technology. The MCB11 and companion MCB12 controller
boards are combined to meet the SIL 4 requirements. IO boards complete the controller to address
specific application needs.
MAIN CONTROLLER BOARD (MCB11)
The MCB11 is a SIL 3-capable Safety controller board. This controller board combined with our IO
boards is the basis of your new safety controller. Available for use "as is" or customized to meet your
specific requirements. The MCB11 offers redundant Ethernet, redundant CAN, and redundant Serial
ports in addition to a SIL 3 Master Disconnect Output. The MCB11 includes a SIL 3 Safety controller
and an industrial communication board. The MCB11 supports the EtherCAT®, EtherNet/IP™, Parallel
Redundancy Protocol (PRP), and MODBUS® TCP protocols.

MCB12 COMPANION CONTROLLER BOARD
The MCB12 is the companion Safety controller for use with the MCB11 controller board to meet the
requirements of SIL 4 according to EN 50129 and implement Vital functions as per AREMA section 17.
This Safety controller offers redundant CAN and redundant Serial ports, all
galvanically isolated. This controller also includes a SIL 4 Master Disconnect Output.

The Universal Digital IO (UDIO) board is
designed to work with our SIL 3-capable
MCB11 Safety controller and our SIL4
capable controller board assembly.
This board has eight channels with
channel-to-channel Galvanic isolation.
Each channel can function as an input or
an output. The UDIO board supports 24 to
110V AC or DC. The board can also be used
as a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) or
pulse counter.
Digital Double Cut IO board is designed to
work with our SIL 3 capable MCB11 Safety
controller and our SIL4 capable Controller
board assembly. This board has eight
channels with channel-to-channel Galvanic
isolation. Each channel can function as an
input or as a double cut output that
switches the high side and the low side
of a load. The DIODC board supports 24 to
110V AC or DC. The board can also be used
as a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) or
pulse counter.
Relay IO board is designed to work with
our SIL 3 capable MCB11 Safety controller
and our SIL4 capable Controller board
assembly. This board provides a sample
of the specialized IO boards we can
design with the Safety Product Platform.
The RIO board has three SIL4 capable
24-110V DC double cut digital outputs
with positively guided relays, four
quadrature encoder inputs locomotive
tachometers, and two 0-20mA outputs
for speed indicators. The RIO has channel
to channel galvanic isolation.
