GENERAL ENGLISH
Business English is a subset of
English for specific purposes
and may be considered a
specialization in the learning
and teaching of English, or a
variant of international
English.
General English is a language that
refers to a time when English usage is
at its peak. In fact, there is a
movement to promote the worldwide
use of English as an official language,
a means of communication or
conversation between two people
who come from different countries.

GENERAL ENGLISH
ENGLISH BUSINESS
Generally, everyday English is
used by people who are still in
the early stages of learning
English. Therefore, the
vocabulary used is still
relatively easy to learn.
Meanwhile, the use of business
English is used by people who are
already fluent in English, so the
vocabulary used is classified as
advanced or at the highest level.
Word choice
GENERAL ENGLISH
In business English, the choice
of vocabulary that refers to
something can be very
specific. This means that there
are more and more choices of
words available but they have
very specific meanings.
For example, in business
English, there is the word
"itinerary" which means travel
plans.
ENGLISH BUSINESS
In General English you have to explain
in detail so that you can convey the
right meaning, it could be in business
English, the conditions or things you
describe already have their own terms
or language. For example
in everyday English, you would
probably explain using the word,
“travel plan”.

ENGLISH BUSINESS
General English is used for
conversation in a casual
setting, so you can use this
language when you are talking
to family, friends, or those
closest to you.
Meanwhile, business English is more
focused on being used for
professional purposes. For example,
when you are meeting with
colleagues, business clients, and much
more. The use of business English at
certain times is indeed important for
ease of communication to make it
more focused and specific.
Learning methods
GENERAL ENGLISH
When studying general English,
we can get any material. For
example, we can learn
everyday English by getting
used to watching movies,
reading books, or listening to
songs.
ENGLISH BUSINESS
However, it is a little less effective if
we want to learn business English.
Therefore, business English classes
often use methods that prioritize
practice. For example, you are
accustomed to writing business
letters by practicing writing. In
addition, we also practice to
communicate professionally using
business English so that we become
accustomed to it.
CONCLUSION
While concluding the discussion, we
can say that English for business is
a subset of English for specific
purposes. On the other hand,
General English is language that
refers to a time when English usage
is at its peak. Both are important for
students to attain various skills to
move confidently in the modern
world. General English purpose is to
cover all the skills whereas; .
