Industrialization is advancing at a rate like never before. Corporations have a massive effect on the
society in which they operate. Corporations play a humongous role in driving the country forward
either by employment or by promoting the well-being of the societies and environments in which
they operate. The argument above suggests the same and I firmly stand with the argument
proposed.
Firstly, corporations in any area have a significant effect on the society and the environment in
which they operate. A common sense of harmony between the industry and the locals can be of
great importance. A prime example for the same is the Manchester City Football Club. Sheikh
Mansour purchased the football club in 2009. The football club represents the city of Manchester.
The area surrounding the football club was extremely undeveloped. Sheikh Mansour collaborated
with the supporters of the football club. He then set out plans for the development of the area
surrounding the stadium. Various restaurants, pubs and stalls were set up by him, so that the local
community could generate some money off the club. He setup modern football playing fields to
promote the youth development of the area. This was seen as an extremely benevolent gesture by
the locals.
Secondly, every corporation needs to make sure that the environment of the area where they
operate must be well-kept. Corporations are ephemeral whereas societies are ever-lasting. They
have no rights to disturb the environment or even affect it in a negative way. There have been
various examples over the years where the wastes produced by the corporations have turned the
area into a mess leading to downfall of the area.
Corporations must also make sure that the pollution produced by them should not be harmful. Any
sort of pollution affecting the locals or the environment should never be condoned. A great example
of the same is a place called Kurla in Mumbai. There are numerous amounts of industries set up in
the area. People have started to suffer from symptoms of cough due to the polluted air. It is not
rocket science to connect the dots since the issues have come up to the surface only a couple of
years after the establishment of these industries.
Corporations must also give back to the society as much as possible. It is with the help of them that
they are flourishing. It could be in various forms like giving away money for charity or hiring locals in
their corporations. A great example for the same could be Mr. Ratan Tata, founder of the Tata
industries.
However, corporations also don't have any written agreement to look after the well-being of their
societies. They had established themselves in a society as they saw an opportunity to make money.
Thus, corporations must have a responsibility to promote the well-being of the societies and
environments in which they operate.
