Cell Analogy Mini-Project
Objective: Your mission is to create an analogy between a cell and something else.
Remember an analogy is “a comparison between two things which are similar in some
respects but are otherwise different.”
Rules:
1. You make make a comparison between any one of the following:
a. The animal cell is like a school.
b. The animal cell is like a city.
c. The animal cell is like a factory.
d. The animal cell is like a car.
e. The animal cell is like a zoo.
2. Next, generate a basic understanding of all of the organelles within a cell.
3. You must create a labeled drawing of a school, city, factory, car or zoo that shows
the parts of that environment that behave like the organelles of a cell. You are not
drawing a cell; you are drawing a zoo for example and labeling the parts of the
zoo the corresponding cell organelle names based on the jobs of those
organelles.
4. Your drawing must include:
a. Plasma Membrane
b. Nucleus
c. Cytoplasm
d. Lysosome
e. Mitochondria
f. DNA
g. Golgi Apparatus
h. Ribosome
i. Rough endoplasmic reticulum
j. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
k. Vacuole
5. Use the chart below to help explain your reasoning.
The __________ is
Like a ____________

School garden
Because a chloroplast makes
food just like a garden makes
