Our objective is to empower women and men across our continent, catalysing economic growth, driving poverty eradication and ensuring job creation. Founded by African investor and philanthropist, Tony O. Elumelu, in 2010, our mission is implemented through our programmes, research, communities, advocacy and convenings, including the annual TEF Forum, the largest gathering of entrepreneurs in Africa, and TEFConnect, Africa’s digital hub for entrepreneurs. The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme is a $100million commitment made by the Elumelu family to empower 10,000 African entrepreneurs over a 10-year period through, training, mentorship and funding. The goal is to create at least 1million jobs and contribute over $10billion in revenue to the African economy. Through its flagship TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, the Foundation empowers African entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Since the launch of the programme on January 1, 2015, we have supported 15,847 African entrepreneurs from 54 countries across the continent, providing training, mentorship, networking opportunities, and funding to grow their businesses. The TEF Business Pitch session gives applicants the opportunity to their brilliant business idea, product or service for a chance to be selected as a TEF Beneficiary. The TEF Shortlisting window is activated and deliberations as made internally to select the 2022 TEF Entrepreneurs. Development of Business Plan Lessons learned from the Business Management training will be leveraged to develop a cohesive business plan document. TEF Business Pitch You’d be given the opportunity to pique the interest of our group of judges with your business pitch. Seed Capital Disbursement Successful Applicants who are selected to become 2022 TEF Entrepreneurs, will receive funding from the Tony Elumelu Foundation TEF Entrepreneurship Programme Certification TEF Entrepreneurs who receive funding, will be given a certificate of completion & achievement from the Tony Elumelu Foundation. 5 www.tonyelumelufoundation.org TEF Entrepreneurship Programme 2021 Applicants’ Handbook Phase 1 Business Management Training The Business Management Training programme is self-paced however you will be given a week to complete each course module and quiz after which access to the quiz. Will be revoked. You will gain access to the bespoke online resource library where you will find bespoke business-related templates and knowledge sharing videos. As a participant, you are required to join the weekly information sessions so you can receive essential information and programme updates. Your Participation and engagement during the Business Management Training, TOE WAY Training Series and, learning the craft of Elevator pitch is important. At the end of the training, you will be required to fill satisfaction survey of your experience and your takeaways from participating in this training. Important Note: Eligibility to move to the next stage of the programme will be based on a combination of criteria which include: - Performance score - Completion & Submission of the Modules and assessment. - Regional and gender diversity - TEF’s Partner requirements. 6 www.tonyelumelufoundation.org TEF Entrepreneurship Programme 2021 Applicants’ Handbook Phase 2 Developing Your Business Plan In this phase, you'd be required to combine all the learnings from the business management training courses and specialised business plan training to develop a cohesive business plan document. A Business Plan template will be shared with you to serve as a guide to develop your document and you are allowed to make any updates, corrections or whatsoever you deem fit once you complete the specialised business plan training session, before the final submission. Development of your Business Plan is expected to begin during the training programme Important Note: Eligibility to move to the next stage of the programme will be based on a combination of criteria which include: - First in time completion & submission before the given deadline - Regional and gender diversity - TEF’s Partner requirements. - 7 www.tonyelumelufoundation.org TEF Entrepreneurship Programme 2021 Applicants’ Handbook Phase 3 TEF Business Pitch You’d be given the opportunity to pique the interest of our group of judges with your pitch. In this phase, you will share, defend your business idea and convince the judge about the feasibility of your business. Leveraging the business plan document, you created in phase two as a guide, You will be required to create a 2 - 4 min pitch video about your business idea and plans and upload the video on to the pitching platform (Details will be shared in due time). A walkthrough guide will be made available to all participants shortlisted to move to the pitching stage. Important to note: This is the final stage of the Entrepreneurship Programme. You will be required to complete all requirements at this phase to determine whether or not you are eligible to Pitch Also, note that other criteria to pitch will include: • Phone number OTP verification • First in time completion & submission - Submission of all required due diligence document - Submission of your Business Registration documents and Business account details - Regional and gender diversity - TEF’s Partner requirements. 8 www.tonyelumelufoundation.org TEF Entrepreneurship Programme 2021 Applicants’ Handbook Phase 4 Seed Capital Disbursement Applicants who successfully complete the TEF Entrepreneurship programme and are selected to become 2022 TEF Entrepreneurs, will receive seed funding from the Foundation. Selected applicants will be required to open a business account and also request a document verification letter from their banks. Selected applicants who are from countries where the United Bank for Africa (UBA) is present need to open a business account with UBA while applicants from countries where UBA is not present, will be given a list of recommended banks to open accounts for funds disbursement. Note: It is noteworthy that those who emerge as the final selected participants will be required to have: ➢ To have submitted their business registration documents and valid Business account details. ➢ Phone number OTP verification Selection will be based on a combination of all the criteria listed above and below. - Regional and gender diversity - TEF’s Partner requirements. 9 www.tonyelumelufoundation.org TEF Entrepreneurship Programme 2021 Applicants’ Handbook Phase 5 TEF Entrepreneurship Programme Certification Applicants who successfully complete all phases of the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme and receive seed capital funding will be given a certificate of completion & achievement from the Tony Elumelu Foundation. Selected TEF Entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to join the TEF Alumni Network, a vibrant and community of 15847 entrepreneurs from across the continent. By joining this network, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, establish partnerships, and interact with other entrepreneurs within the broader entrepreneurship ecosystem. Alumni who remain engaged with the Foundation and responsive to our business reporting requests will also benefit from additional opportunities designed to help further grow and develop their businesses.
