Many companies have used AI to automate Processes to replace employees with the machines. When humans and machines work together significant performance can be seen. Through such collaborative Intelligence, humans and machines gave each other complementary strengths. To take full advantage of this collaboration, companies must understand how humans can most effectively augment machines, how machines can enhance what humans do best, and how to redesign business processes to support the partnership. Value of collaboration: Five Principles can help companies in optimizing collaboration between humans and Machines: Reimagine business processes; embrace experimentation/employee involvement; actively direct Al strategy; responsibly collect data; and redesign work to incorporate Al and cultivate related employee skills Humans assisting Machines: Humans need to perform three crucial roles in assisting machines: Train, explain, sustain 1) Training: In training the AI machines they must be provided with huge data sets to handle every kind of situation. AI systems should be trained how to interact with Humans, like the bots require extensive training to develop the right personality. The AI systems should have all the human qualities like Caring, Empathy, Confidence, helpful etc. The bot should know how to deal with a poet, Novelist or a playwright. Apple’s siri and Amazon’s Alexa were trained only to reflect their company’s brands. But now a days AI assistants are being trained on more complex human traits such as sympathy. The recent KOKO project of MIT media lab has been trained with such traits e.g. if a person is having a bad day, it will ask the problem and will offer a related advice. 2) Explaining: The AI systems need expert Explainers to explain their work to non-expert persons, that why did the system reached such conclusion and why did it took a particular solution in a particular situation e.g. in medicines, law, and avoiding or doing an accident. the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives consumers the right to receive an explanation for any algorithm- based decision, such as the rate off er on a credit card or mortgage. 3) Sustaining: Sustainers are the employees who are always present just to check proper functioning of AI systems. Some Sustainers are there to prevent AI systems from any kind of harm. And others to uphold ethical norms. 2|Page PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT Machines assisting Humans: Machines can help humans in three ways: Amplify, Interact, Embody 1) Amplify: AI systems give right information at the right time and boost our analytical and decisionmaking abilities. It also heightens the creativity. By AI systems we van design the things of our choice like we can give our requirements and it will make the best possible thing in the least possible amount. 2) Interacting: AI systems have helped in machine and human interaction in a novel and more effective way. Famous AI assistants are Cortona and Aida (Virtual Assistant in SEB Swedish bank). These assistants can help in many FAQs but if there any query that it cannot solve then it turns the call over to human customer service. 3) Embodiment: AI- enabled machines can now recognize people and objects and work safely alongside humans in factories, warehouses, and laboratories. So we can give them mechanical access to perform otherwise hands on tasks. Enhancing Performance: At organizations in all kinds of industries, humans and AI are collaborating to improve five elements of business processes. Flexibility, Speed, Scale, Decision Making, Personalization. 1) Flexibility: Succeeding in production today requires extremely efficient operation. All parts production steps should be developed to eliminate possible errors, as well as increase productivity, speed and efficiency. This applies to all production processes, whether mold filling, partial printing, machinery or sheet metal construction. Flexibility has helped so much in automobile design (Mercedes-Benz), product design (Autodesk) and software development (Gigster). 2) Speed For many business activities speed is of much importance. The Speed of AI systems have played a much important role in fraud detection (HSBC), cancer treatment (Roche), Public Safety (Singapore government). 3) Scale For many business processes, poor scalability is the primary obstacle to improvement. That’s particularly true of processes that depend on intensive human labour with minimal machine assistance. Scalability has helped in recruiting (unilever), Customer Service (Virgin Trains), casino management (GGH morowitz). 4) Decision Making AI helps in reaching better decisions by providing tailored information and guidance to the employees. It is very much valuable for workers in the trenches, where making the right call can have a huge impact on the bottom line. Decision making has helped a lot in Equipment Maintenance (General Electric), Financial Services (Morgan stanley), Disease prediction (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai) 5) Personalization AI systems has provided customers with individually tailored brand experiences, that is the holy grail of marketing. AI-based personalization enables brands to increase customer engagement, improve loyalty, increase sales and more completely understand their customers — all in real-time. AI is the future of mechanical industries and the service sector. Current AI isn’t as well coordinated or advanced to be able to run completely independent of human control. That said it is also inevitable that Ai will become independent and will replace humans in certain sectors completely. AI is a controversial topic due to a range of reasons, from replacement of unskilled labor to implausible topics like AI going against humanity. But Artificial Intelligence will no question become a major part of industrial work as well as our daily lives. 4|Page
