Transgender Athletes 1 I chose to report on transgender athletes because the subject is very personal to me and one that I think needs to be addressed, not only in the sports world but also in every day l life. Transgender people should have the same sports options that heterosexual, bi-sexual or any other orientation has. It seems there is a lot of confusion and unknowns regarding transgender people. The intent of this paper is to help answer some of those questions. Chen, V. (2018). Ethical Issues Concerning Transgender Athletes. Penn Bioethics Journal, 14(1). This article talks about some of the ethical issues transgender athletes face. Some argue that transgender people are not “natural.” It seems the biggest ethical issue in the matter is whether it is fair for the transgender athlete to compete with other athletes and what if any restrictions should be implemented. Nye, E. A., Crossway, A., Rogers, S. M., Games, K. E., & Eberman, L. E. (2019). Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer patients: collegiate athletic trainers' perceptions. Journal of athletic training, 54(3), 334-344. This article discusses the relationship between the athletic trainer (AT) and the athlete. The article makes clear that there are many issues between the AT and the athlete. Some of which stem from religious affiliations, many that are from lack of education about the subject. Most ATs emphatically attest that they would feel much better equipped to deal with trans athletes if they were better educated. Wahlert, L., & Fiester, A. (2012). Gender transports: Privileging the “natural” in gender testing debates for intersex and transgender athletes. The American Journal of Bioethics, 12(7), 19-21.were better educated about the matter.
