transgender: A person who has assumed some of
the characteristics of the sex to which s/he was not
assigned at birth, through dress, manner, speech,
style of life, choice of sexual partner, and sometimes
through limited medical alteration, but who does not
identify with or as the other sex.
transsexual: A person who lives and identifies
primarily with and as a member of the sex to which
s/he was not assigned at birth. In many industrialized
countries, including the US, transsexuals undergo
medical procedures to alter their bodies to conform to
the characteristics of their new gender identity.
