The study made used of a researcherdeveloped semi-structured, open-ended interviews with the participants. Data gathered were analyzed via thematic analysis. Overall findings show that Grade 11 students' views and perceptions of modular distance learning differ, with some believing that it is ineffective since they did not learn anything from it, particularly those who require assistance when learning, which leads to self-sufficiency. Others believe it is an effective modality, despite the fact that they faced numerous challenges and difficulties, including a communication barrier between teachers and students. On the other hand Modular Distance Learning in the time of pandemic has its Advantages and Disadvantages in every students which are; Advantages: More cheaper, less time consuming, being more productive since your time is in your hand, being more disciplined, and challenged every students interms of teaching themselves which leads to; Disadvantages: Modular Distance Learning causes Grade 11 students to rely on themselves in their learnings, Poor School Management, Time Consuming and Poor study habits. Also Modular Distance Learning causes to manage/deal with this challenges. Students uses different technique to manage their time properly and they become more responsible and disciplined compared in face to face class. Students experienced a lot of change and learned valuable life lessons. This then study concludes that the effectiveness of Modular Distance Learning depends on Grade 11 students own encounter, which allow him/her to assess how well Modular Distance Learning goes, considering the factors and other concerns affecting it. Also Modular Distance Learning causes students to have plans and proper time management, and having and having self-discipline. They have been directly impacted by the pandemic's changes and problems, as well as Modular Distance Learning, and learned their lessons in overcome this issue. This study recommends the school authorities to hear the voices of Grade 11 students to thoroughly asses the effectiveness of Modular Distance Learning Modality at Pampanga High School in order for them to go over the room for improvements and serve the best quality education that every Grade 11 students truly deserve. Grade 11 students are encouraged to adapt and adjust in the new normal education for the students to find ways to surpass these obstacles. It also recommends the teachers and School authorities interms to the quality of the SiPacks and vague feedbacks from the teachers. Pampanga High School authorities encouraged to guide the Grade 11 students in a way where they can feel the authenticity and essence of what they are learning by building positive relationships between students and professors and having progressive teaching and learning methodologies. Lastly, Grade 11 students encouraged to use the values they learned in Modular Distance Learning even when we are back in the normal setting. The COVID-19 epidemic also caused considerable disruption, including travel restrictions, school closures, and a global economic downturn. This pandemic struck hard and disrupted many aspects of our lives, including education. As a result of the Covid- 19 outbreak, education was disrupted. To slow the spread of the virus and prevent infections, most countries have temporarily closed educational facilities (UNESCO, 2020). In the educational context, the new normal should be considered in the formulation and execution of the "new normal educational policy" in order to maintain and offer excellent education despite lockdown and community quarantine (Tria, 2020). Modular Distance Learning has been introduced as an expedient solution to ensure educational continuity as a result of the pandemic. The most common type of distance learning is modular learning. According to a survey done by the Department of Education (DepEd), learning through printed and digital modules emerged as the most desired distance learning mode among most Filipino parents and students. This also takes into account learners in remote locations who do not have access to the internet for online learning. __________________________________________________________________________________ 7 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ As the school year progress from its opening, more and more challenges were encountered in to day-to-day delivery of basic education services. Distance education is defined as “any educational process in which all or most of the teaching is conducted by someone removed in space and/or time from the learner, with the effect that all or most of the communication between teachers and learners is through an artificial medium, either electronic or print” (UNESCO, 2002). Not all learners have the opportunity to acclimate to the new regular educational approach. Although it may appear that practically everyone has access to the internet, a staggering proportion of families do not have fast or dependable internet connections. In the Philippines, around 60% of households do not have access to the internet. That means millions of students are being left behind ( Santos, 2020). Despite the fact that PHS's modular distance learning program is modular, students still require internet access for incomprehensible lessons, teacher updates/meetings to guide students, research, and other objectives. Not all pupils can learn on their own; they require more discipline, self-motivation, and time management. Nearly 4 million kids were unable to enroll for the current school year, according to data from the Department of Education (DepEd). "Many of the children who were not able to enroll last year could end up missing even more time out of school or worse, drop out completely for one reason or another” (Angara, 2021). Due to financial inability, a lack of technology equipment, family obligations, a lack of personal desire, and the high expense of education or financial concerns, many students are losing hope of acquiring an education now that there is a pandemic. __________________________________________________________________________________ 8 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ The goal of this research was to see how the pandemic affected students' life on a daily basis. Here you may discover how much Covid-19 has impacted students' lives. It also demonstrates the challenges that teachers, parents, and students experience when utilizing Modular Distance Learning. In addition, to assess the tactics, interventions, or solutions utilized by educational institutions and the government to aid students, parents, and teachers dealing with emerging learning modalities. Literature Review Before beginning the investigation, the researcher gathered reviews of relevant literature and studies in order to gain a better understanding of the subject. The output's elements or variables are elaborated and explained in this section of the research. This primarily focuses on the frequent obstacles that Grade 11 students have when it comes to modular distance learning, how the pandemic has changed people's life on a daily basis, and the difficulties that teachers and parents face while putting modular distance learning into practice. The COVID-19 pandemic has altered the course of history. The virus's nature, particularly how it spreads, has changed human behaviour, relationships, and lifestyles, as well as the economic, political, and cultural landscapes of societies all over the world. It has also exacerbated poverty, discrimination, and inequalities in many parts of the world, not only because COVID-19 appears to be affecting poorer communities more than richer communities, but also as a result of the measures taken by states to control the virus's spread, primarily by restricting freedom of movement through the imposition of community quarantine, lockdowns, and curfews in parts of the world (Simbulan, 2020). __________________________________________________________________________________ 9 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ Higher education institutions (HEIs), both public and private, have also had to adjust to the new situation where face-to-face interaction and mass gatherings are prohibited. According to (Deped, 2021) the most prevalent form of distance learning for K-12 pupils is "modular learning," in which students print out class modules to study on their own and submit to teachers for marking. Despite the time and effort spent printing materials, Grade 11 students and teachers are expected to be available for consultations online (typically via Facebook Messenger) or by SMS. This necessitates the use of a laptop and access to the internet, both of which are out of reach for many public school teachers and students. Many students still use the internet to complement their research for more difficult tasks. Given that nearly 20% of the 6.5 million students who have access to the internet utilize computer cafes or other public venues, this is an issue, according to a DepEd survey. Worse, 2.8 million students have no access to the internet. This is especially prevalent in rural areas, which account for 53% of the population and where both internet connection and speed can be difficult to come by (Santos, 2020). The shift to selflearning modules and remote or distance learning, combined with the country's expensive but slow internet connectivity, puts a strain on families' ability to afford the additional costs of this type of education. While there have always been evident educational inequalities, the pandemic has brought to light a new one: access to education for those who can afford it vs those who can't (OECD, 2020). Because they lack financial assistance and must prioritize employment for their families, many young people are unable to study during the pandemic. Poor time management is one of the most serious problems that online students face. Poor time management can be caused by a lack of a timetable, too many distractions, and multitasking. Lack of a specific work space is another factor that might lead to poor time management (Sellers, 2021). Due to a lack of sleep __________________________________________________________________________________ 10 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ and time to answer modules as a result of poor time management, many students are late in passing outputs and frequently drop grades. The pandemic that forced us to stay indoors is starting to take its toll on our mental health (Keziel, 2020). In a generation where many people have died as a result of depression, younger students are considering giving up and taking their own lives. Many posts on social media about students committing suicide because they can't bear the pressure that the new normal has placed on them were seen by the researcher. They are having difficulty answering their modules because their lecturers are not at their side. When students complete their modules at home, a lot of strain can build up. Because of the lack of tranquillity in their surroundings, students may acquire anxiety. Especially those pupils who have other duties besides schoolwork, and those who do not have parental assistance and must study on their own. Administrative issues, academic skills, social interactions, technological skills, learner encouragement, time and support for studies, expense, and internet access and technical problems are among the common challenges students face while studying during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the aforementioned literatures and studies. Furthermore, these difficulties have a negative impact on students' psychological, emotional, behavioural, and social well-being, which has an impact on their academic performance. These were helpful to the researcher because they made intelligible connections between Grade 11 students' experiences while studying during the COVID-19 pandemic. The researcher believe that this research may serve as a springboard for potential changes to existing school programs and recommendations for implementing modular distance learning. It could be used to instruct future students and teachers so that they are prepared and know what __________________________________________________________________________________ 11 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ to do in the event of another pandemic. It can also be utilized to broaden one's horizons, solve difficulties, and make learning more accessible, regardless of the type of distance learning used. Statement of the Problem This study primarily aims to look into the challenges that Grade 11 students face while using modular distance learning modalities at PHS. The following are the study's objectives 1. What is their perceptions regarding the modular distance learning in this time of Pandemic? 2. What are the gains and challenges they encountered? 3. How do they manage/deal these challenges? 4. What are the value/life lessons that they experienced on modular distance learning in this time of pandemic? Scope and Limitation The research will take place just at Pampanga High School. The study's target levels are all grade 11 students who are enrolled in modular online learning. It is designed for this research to probe on how the pandemic impacted student's live on a regular basis, what are the difficulties faced by teachers, parents, and students when implementing Modular Distance Learning and lastly to determine the life lessons they experienced on modular distance learning. Students bad behaviour towards teachers are henceforth, not a particular in this research. __________________________________________________________________________________ 12 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ Significance of the Study This study entitled "Education During Pandemic: Challenges of Grade 11 Students on Modular Distance Learning Modalities at PHS" is being created to benefit the following: Grade 11 Students: the study will benefit the senior high school grade 11 students because they are the subject of this research and will lead them to an advise if there's a negative implication. METHODOLOGY Qualitative research is a sort of social science research that uses non-numerical data to collect information. It aims to derive meaning from this data by focusing on specific populations or locations to better understand social life (Bhandari, 2020). This is done to figure out what the underlying reasoning, opinions, and motivations are. Qualitative research can also be used to identify patterns in people's thoughts and attitudes. Furthermore, it delves deeper into the issue (Pathak, 2013). Unstructured and semi-structured procedures are used in qualitative data collection (Jayaraman, 2020). In accordance to this, there are several steps on how to use this kind of research which are (1) Determine research questions; actionable qualitative research relies on focused inquiries, (2) Plan the Research, Getting user feedback rather than simply internal conversations is an important first step, (3) Gather information, The qualitative researcher should function as an unobtrusive observer with little influence over the surroundings being observed, (4) Examine the data, The process of translating utterances into actionable insights is sped up by creating a system for coding actions and notable phrases, (5) Generate Findings, which entails synthesizing the voluminous notes, movies, and artifacts, (6) Validate findings and lastly, (7) While information is __________________________________________________________________________________ 15 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ received sequentially from each participant, it is better to report the data as an inverted pyramid by issue. This form of study was chosen by the researcher in order to better understand and empathize with their subjects. In comparison to closed-ended questions, they will be able to collect data of greater depth and complexity. The researcher will do qualitative research to elicit the responses' opinions, thoughts, and feelings. It will provide perspectives on many issues and aid in the development of concepts or hypotheses for future quantitative study ( Austin and Sutton, 2014). Phenomenology was employed as the research design in this study. Phenomenology is a qualitative research approach that focuses on a group's living experiences and perceptions. The major goal of this study is to come up with a description of the nature of a certain phenomena (Smith, 2013). It also investigates a person's experiences and assists us in comprehending the meaning of people's lived experiences. Because the researcher was looking into the issues that Grade 11 students confront when using modular distant learning modalities at PHS, phenomenology was a suitable choice for this study. There will be 5 participants who are Grade 11 students and enrolled in modular distance learning located at Pampanga High School. They will be selected via purposive sampling method with the following criteria: (1) The participants must be a Grade 11 student, (2) The participants must be enrolled in modular distance learning. In the with this, Purposive sampling, also known as judgmental, selective, or subjective sampling, is a type of non-probability sampling in which researchers choose people of the public to participate in their study based on their own judgment ( Alchemer, 2021). This form of sampling approach will be used by the researcher since it focuses on certain features of a population that are of interest, making it easier to answer research questions. The researchers chose a semi structured interview guide as the instrument. To collect qualitative data that is both credible and comparable. __________________________________________________________________________________ 16 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ The researcher will collect trustworthy and comparable qualitative data utilizing a semistructured interview guide for the instrument. Due to Covid 19 going out is prohibited, it can spread anywhere where you may come into close contact with an infected person. The virus spreads mainly via respiratory droplets that are released from an infected person through coughing, sneezing, talking or singing, which then get into the mouth, nose or eyes of people who are nearby. Short-range airborne (or aerosol) transmission may also be possible, particularly in poorly ventilated, crowded indoor places. People may also become infected by touching their mouth, nose or eyes, after touching surfaces contaminated with the virus ( UNICEF, 2020). Because of this, data will be collected via ( Zoom, Teleconference, Google meet, Messenger, etc.). Because of the advanced technologies we have today, this alternative interview set up is just as effective as a faceto-face interview for this study. It's also precise, accurate, and allows the researcher to have interviewers gather detailed information about attitudes and behavior toward this topic, which will greatly aid the data collection process. According to (Miamioh, 2016), the validity of an instrument is the extent to which it measures what it is supposed to measure and behaves as it is planned to function. Validity was sought through the ability of questions that lasted through the examination and interaction with our research teacher in order to obtain appropriate data for this study. The researcher will begin collecting data by delivering an official letter of request to the Pampanga High School principal, who will then forward it to the advisers, and finally to the study participants, who are Grade 11 students engaged in modular distance learning. After getting the acceptance invitation to study participants, the teacher and department head must sign the instrument validation before data collection can begin. The researchers will use a semi-structured interview guide that they have produced as their tool. Participants will respond during their vacant/free time in accordance with the Department of Education's (DepEd) non-disruption of __________________________________________________________________________________ 17 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ classes policy, which is the DO 9, s. 2005-instituting measures to improve engaged time on task and guaranteeing compliance. Ethical considerations are an important part of every study. The researcher must comply in order to promote the research's goal of conveying accurate knowledge, facts, and the avoidance of errors. Accountability, trust, mutual respect, and fairness are all principles that must be shared by all participants in a study ( Žukauskas, 2018). The researcher ensured that the participants in this planned study were provided a consent of participation form. Furthermore, the researchers verified that fair chances from the list of criteria were offered to the respondents in order to determine who among them was competent to participate in the study. Furthermore, all participants are guaranteed privacy and secrecy as an indication of the feasibility of the research as well as the need of maintaining a trustworthy connection with the respondents to avoid information leaking. The researcher require the goals of participants' qualification since they are required to submit certain information in the study, thus the following are required: Participants must be Grade 11 students enrolled in Pampanga High School's modular distance learning program. Thematic analysis is a flexible data analysis strategy used by qualitative researchers to extract themes from interview data. Because there is no specific research design linked with thematic analysis, it can be used for a variety of purposes, including case studies, phenomenology, general qualitative, and narrative inquiry, to mention a few. Because the procedures are simple to follow but rigorous enough to create relevant discoveries from the data, this data analysis approach is ideal for both novice and professional qualitative researchers ( Nowell et al., 2017). The gathered data will be analyzed using coding, categorization, and topical analysis. The gathered data will be analyzed using coding, categorization, and topical analysis. The specialists used names to the appropriate responses of the participants in coding the gathered data; these marks fill in as the acknowledged __________________________________________________________________________________ 18 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ reactions to fulfill the data emphasized by the investigation. The scientists met with the respondents for approval after designating the surrendered replies in order to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the data obtained. Data Collection In this section will state the sequence on how the researcher collect the data. The researcher was in responsibility of writing the questions and providing the full interview guide to the research teacher for approval. The researcher began collecting data when it was validated. The researcher will be utilizing a semi-structured interview. The data were collected through online setting of the participants via messenger from June 28 to June 30, 2021. Due to Covid 19 face to face interview is not possible, but the internet has made it possible to collect data online that is more robust, takes less time, and is more efficient. Emails, SMS sent on phones, and other similar ways are used to explore and acquire information on the internet. Online data collection refers to information obtained via sending emails, SMS, and other electronic messages (typically through online interviews). The advantage of online data collection is that the survey respondents or panel members are given ample time to respond to the questionnaire or the survey. So the data that is received is usually more accurate. Online data collection is a systematic process and involves clear distinction in the way the data is collected. The panel that is set up for data collection should be responsive and should possess knowledge about the field in which the research is conducted. Therefore there are certain steps that need to be followed to receive accurate data (Questionpro, 2021). The terms and conditions of the study were given to each of them by the researcher. It included information on the study as well as a commitment that the participant's personal information and replies would be kept private. There was also a Written Interview Guide Questions section with open-ended questions for the participants to answer. __________________________________________________________________________________ 19 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ The researcher analyzed and interpreted the data collected from the sample to arrive at the result. In addition, he structured and safeguarded the data for the participants' safety. Ethical Issues Ethical issues abound in all types of study. The research process distinguishes between research goals that benefit others and the right to privacy of subjects. Ethics would place a premium on goodness and preventing damage. By following a strict code of ethics, harm can be avoided or minimized. As a result, participant safety is critical in any research endeavour. This type of study collects a lot of personal information in greater detail. Confidentiality is one of the ethical factors that should always be considered to preserve the participants' identities. To ensure the capacity to go into detail regarding the participants' condition, full agreement from the participants and higher authorities was sought before to performing the research. The researcher would explain that, given the current scenario, their participation was voluntary. It would also be stressed that if they participated, their responses would be analyzed but their names would stay hidden. The researcher only asked questions that were related to the study to avoid going off on a tangent or being too personal. Data Analysis A qualitative study's findings are frequently interpreted by the researcher. The researcher utilized thematic analysis to analyze the data acquired since he used a phenomenological approach as his study strategy. A qualitative researcher employs thematic analysis, a flexible data analysis approach, to classify and arrange patterns and themes offered in a data collection. Thematic analysis is versatile in that it does not require a specific study design; it can be used for case studies, phenomenology, general qualitative, and narrative inquiry, to mention a few. __________________________________________________________________________________ 20 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ Because the procedures are simple to follow but rigorous enough to create relevant discoveries from the data, this data analysis approach is ideal for both novice and professional qualitative researchers (Busseto., et al. 2021). Coding, classifying, and thematic analysis would be used to analyze the material gathered. The researcher could present his views and interpretations of meanings based on the responses made by the participants using this method. As a result, the study's results might be derived from such interpretations. From the first instrument question that allowed the Grade 11 student participants to share their perceptions regarding the modular distance learning in this time of Pandemic, the first theme, Effectiveness of Modular Distance Learning has emerged upon analyzing the gathered data, known as their responses. In terms of learning ability, each student is unique. The most pressing worry is the effectiveness of the new normal education in every learners. This is supported by the study of Danale & Sumaong (2020) which suggested that even the Modular Distance Learning is the best alternative learning system in this time of pandemic, its effectiveness is questionable, especially for the students who are not capable learning on their own. It can therefore be inferred that the views and perceptions of Grade 11 students towards Modular Distance Learning differ from one another, as some believe that its not an effective learning modality due to they didn’t learn anything from it especially those who are in need of assistance when learning which leads to self- suffiency, as other believe that it is somehow an effective modality, even though they faced a lot of challenges and difficulties including communication barrier between teachers and students, almost affected their physical and mental health and the adjustments they did in this new normal education but along the way they adjusted and cope this system and survived. From this discussion, it can therefore be concluded that the effectiveness of Modular Distance Learning depends on Grade 11 students own encounter, which allow him/her to assess how well Modular Distance Learning goes, considering the factors and other concerns affecting it. This study recommends the school authorities to hear the voices of Grade 11 students to thoroughly asses the effectiveness of Modular __________________________________________________________________________________ 27 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ Distance Learning Modality at Pampanga High School in order for them to go over the room fr improvements and serve the best quality education that every Grade 11 students truly deserve. From the second instrument question that allowed the Grade 11 students to indicate the gains and challenges that they encountered in Modular Distance Learning in this time of pandemic, the second theme, Advantages and Disadvantages of Distance Learning has emerged upon analyzing the gathered data, known as their responses. There are good and bad aspects in any circumstance. Students gain and face problems as a result of their education throughout the pandemic. This is supported by the ideas of (Korolkov,. A, et al., 2020), (Bijeesh 2021), Gautam (2021), and Lederman (2020). (Korolkov,. A, et al., 2020), suggested that distance learning has a lot of advantages and disadvantages advantages that relate to each other in approximately equal proportions. For this reason, distance cannot be the only and final form of training. It is necessary to ensure the educational component of the pedagogical system. That’s why, distance learning is only suitable for students with a high degree of motivation to learn. Bijeesh (2021) suggested that distance education might not be applicable of every students but learning its upsides and downsides, you can survive along the way since this is the only option in this time of pandemic. Gautam (2020) suggested that decoding and understanding these postives and negatives will help each one of the students in creating strategies for more effiently learning. Lederman (2021) suggested that remote studies may be the future of education, but students have to adapt for this to work, the smart move is for students to acclimatize now and find ways around any obstacles of studying from home. It is the only sure way of staying ahead as further changes come. It can therefore be inferred that Modular Distance Learning in the time of pandemic has its Advantages and Disadvantages in every students which are; Advantages: More cheaper, less time consuming, being more productive since your time is in your hand, being more disciplined, and __________________________________________________________________________________ 28 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ challenged every students interms of teaching themselves which leads to; Disadvantages: Modular Distance Learning causes Grade 11 students to rely on themselves in their learnings, Poor School Management where in typographical errors in the SIPacks which are very confusing, vague feedbacks from teachers especially in math subjects, Incomprehensible instructions on activities, Time Consuming which leads to not having enough time for household work and family arrangements, and Poor study habits where in Modular Distance Learning causes students into being irresponsible. From this discussion, it can therefore be concluded that Grade 11 students directly affected by the change and challenges brought by the Modular Distance Learning in the time of pandemic, on the other hand this Advantages and Disadvantages have positive and also negative effect in their study. This study recommend the Grade 11 students themselves to adapt and adjust in the new normal education for the students to find ways to surpass these obstacles by knowing how to handle this disadvantages and survive this new learning system. It also recommends the teachers and School authorities interms to the quality of the SiPacks and vague feedbacks from the teachers. The third instrument question that allowed the Grade 11 student participants to share how they manage or deal with this challenges that they encountered, the third theme, Ways to manage these Challenges has emerged upon analyzing the gathered data, known as their responses. Learners increase their academic performance and become better and responsible students as a result of how they handled and dealt with the problems they faced. This supported by the ideas of Stoto (2020), Wu (2020), and Intervarsity (2020). Stoto (2020) suggested that the new normal education comes with its fair of share troubles, not being in a classroom in front of a lecturer and having to make your own schedule and stick with it can be challenging to many. Wu (2020) suggested that there is still a lot challenges in distance learning that needs to resolve, __________________________________________________________________________________ 29 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ teachers may experience a hard time expressing instructional content to their pupils, especially long and complex assignment or assessment. Intervarsity (2020) suggested that students need to focus, have time management , and have communication with your peers and teachers. It can therefore be inferred that Modular Distance Learning causes students to adjust and think on how to manage/deal with this challenges. Students uses different technique to manage their time properly and they become more responsible and disciplined compared in face to face class. From this discussion, it can therefore be concluded that Modular Distance Learning causes students to have plans and proper time management, because they uses asynchronous learning and get distracted easily, also having self-discipline where in encouraging yourself to be a better student. This study recommends the Pampanga High School authorities to guide the Grade 11 students in a way where they can feel the authenticity and essence of what they are learning by building positive relationships between students and professors and having progressive teaching and learning methodologies. The fourth instrument question that allowed the Grade 11 student participants to share their value/life lessons that they experienced on modular distance learning in this time of pandemic, the fourth theme, Life lessons in modular distance learning has emerged upon analyzing the gathered data, known as their responses. Every event you encounter will teach you something, especially in the darkest times where you'll get some of the most significant life lessons that you may apply for the rest of your life. This is supported by the ideas of Hughes(2020), Bhamani (2020), and Fidalgo (2020). Hughes (2020) suggested that students and teachers have realised how exhausting it is to be on screens all day long. Remote learning has reminded us that powerful learning can only happen when we are engaged, energetic and focussed. Bhamani (2020) suggested that taking your time wisely and __________________________________________________________________________________ 30 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ adjusting in the new normal education is a must to survive this phenomenon. Fidalgo (2020) suggested that every student needs to know how to rest, health is always matter. It can therefore be inferred that Modular Distance learning brought a lot of change in every student, also brings life lessons when taking Modular Distance learning. Using your time properly and having selfdiscipline are the life lessons that the Grade 11 students learned, also students realize that time is precious we shouldn’t take advantage from it, we may run out of time in the future. Also learning how to cope with the challenges by adjusting to become a better learner. Our time, manner, and the way we do things isn't constant so adjusting is a must. From this discussion, it can therefore be concluded that Grade 11 are directly affected by the changes and challenges brought by the pandemic and Modular Distance Learning and learned their lessons to surpass this phenomenon. This study recommends the Grade 11 students to use the values they learned in Modular Distance Learning even when we are back in the normal setting. SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION This chapter presents the summary of the findings of the study and the corresponding conclusion and recommendations. This study recommends the school authorities to hear the voices of Grade 11 students to thoroughly asses the effectiveness of Modular Distance Learning Modality at Pampanga High School in order for them to go over the room for improvements and serve the best quality education that every Grade 11 students truly deserve. Instrument Question Number 2: What are the gains and challenges that you've encountered? • Theme #2: Advantages and Disadvantages of Modular Distance Learning - More Convenient - Increase Productivity - Modular Distance Learning promotes Discipline __________________________________________________________________________________ 50 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ - Poor School Management - Modular Distance Learning promotes Self-sufficiency - Poor Study Habits There are good and bad aspects in any circumstance. Students gain and face problems as a result of their education throughout the pandemic. This is supported by the ideas of (Korolkov,. A, et al., 2020), (2020), (Bijeesh 2021), Gautam (2021), and Williams (2021). Williams (2021) suggested that remote studies may be the future of education, but students have to adapt for this to work, the smart move is for students to acclimatize now and find ways around any obstacles of studying from home. It is the only sure way of staying ahead as further changes come. It can therefore be inferred that Modular Distance Learning in the time of pandemic has its Advantages and Disadvantages in every students which are; Advantages: More cheaper, less time consuming, being more productive since your time is in your hand, being more disciplined, and challenged every students interms of teaching themselves which leads to; Disadvantages: Modular Distance Learning causes Grade 11 students to rely on themselves in their learnings, Poor School Management where in typographical errors in the SIPacks which are very confusing, vague feedbacks from teachers especially in math subjects, Incomprehensible instructions on activities, Time Consuming which leads to not having enough time for household work and family arrangements, and Poor study habits where in Modular Distance Learning causes students into being irresponsible. From this discussion, it can therefore be concluded that Grade 11 students directly affected by the change and challenges brought by the Modular Distance Learning in the time of pandemic, on the other hand this Advantages and Disadvantages have positive and also negative effect in their study. This study recommend the __________________________________________________________________________________ 51 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ Grade 11 students themselves to adapt and adjust in the new normal education for the students to find ways to surpass these obstacles by knowing how to handle this disadvantages and survived this new learning system. It also recommends the teachers and School authorities interms to the quality of the SiPacks and vague feedbacks from the teachers. Instrument Question Number 3: How did you manage/deal these challenges? • Theme #3: Ways to manage this Challenges - Modular Distance Learning promotes proper Time Management - Modular Distance Learning promotes Discipline Learners increase their academic performance and become better and responsible students as a result of how they handled and dealt with the problems they faced. Wu (2020) suggested that there is still a lot challenges in distance learning that needs to resolve, teachers may experience a hard time expressing instructional content to their pupils, especially long and complex assignment or assessment. __________________________________________________________________________________ 52 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ Instrument Question Number 4: What are the value/life lessons that you experienced on modular distance learning in this time of pandemic? • Theme #4: Life Lessons in Modular Distance Learning - Modular Distance Learning promotes proper Time Management - Modular Distance Learning promotes Adjustments - Modular Distance Learning promotes Discipline Every event you encounter will teach you something, especially in the darkest times where you'll get some of the most significant life lessons that you may apply for the rest of your life. Bhamani (2020) suggested that taking your time wisely and adjusting in the new normal education is a must to survive this phenomenon. __________________________________________________________________________________ 53 PAMPANGA HIGH SCHOOL – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Downloaded by Marianne Paglinawan (mariannereyespaglinawan@gmail.com) lOMoARcPSD|11068535 EDUCATION DURING PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES __________________________________________________________________________________ References Alchemer.
