Year 7 - Persuasive Speech Drafting Sheet Alex .P 7C Name: Alex .P Class: 7C Speech Aspect Introduction Grab reader’s attention (use a hook e.g. a statistic or anecdote) Introduce yourself to the audience (Government Representative) Speech Text Are you aware that you are disturbing our Indigenous culture? By keeping the ancestral remains of our Aboriginal people, without their permission. We should also mend the bond with the aboriginals for killing some of their people .That’s why I am here representing the Queensland Government to make it obvious to you that you must repatriate the remains back to the indigenous people. Preview 3 main arguments Body 1: Argument – provide a reason why repatriation must occur Argument 1: Indigenous perspective – spiritual significance of remains. Refer to the importance of burying the remains of ancestors. Repatriation is very important for some aboriginals, so we should help them so we can apologise for taking their land and killing some of their people. It is the old people’s religion to bury their people in their homeland which we have disturbed. Because of scientific research their bones have been transported all around the world to different museums and must be returned back. It is very important that we fix our bond with the aboriginals by repatriating their bones back to Australia. *USE FIRE THROUGHOUT 1. Topic Sentence – state argument 2. Explain topic sentence 3. Topic Sentence – state argument 2. Explain topic sentence 3. Evidence use a statistic or an anecdote or an historical source 4. Elaborate on evidence or argument It’s not fair that we took the indigenous peoples land from them and built on it without apologising. We should apologise by repatriating the bones back to Australia so we can make a proper burial for the indigenous people. There belief is that if their people are not buried in our country their spirit is wandering, so it is our job to make the pasted away aboriginal spirits to rest. 5. Conclude – summarise argument and 6. Link to next argument Body 3: Argument 3: Counter Argument What opposition may there be? Why might the museums say no? What solutions/counter argument will you suggest? I understand that you have maintained the bones of their ancestors, but that still does not entitle you to have full ownership of their bones. Because aboriginals have their rights to keep the bones of their ancestors in their home country, which we have taken from them and we should all help make it fair for the indigenous people. Llione said “There still are 660 remains left too repatriate which are in about 15 different countries.” If we all work together to repatriate the bones back to Australia, repatriating them will be easier. *USE FIRE THROUGHOUT 1.
