Lesson Plan in Teaching Mathematics 2 I- Objectives: At end of the lesson the pupils should be able to: 1. Identify the time using analog and digital clocks 2. Value the importance of time 3. Write the correct time using analog and digital clocks II- Subject Matter A. Topic: Telling and writing the time in minutes using analog and digital clock B. Reference: Mathematics 2, pp. 328-331 C. Materials: Chart, Flashcards, DLP, LM D. Strategy: Inductive Method E. Technique: Explicit Instruction F. Value Focus: Importance of time as our daily reference III- Procedure A. Drill The teacher will going to present a video presentation entitled “Hickory Dickory Dock”. B. Review Using the calendar for the month of February 2018. Give the duration of time elapsed. Date Started 1. February 2 2. February 5 3. February 15 4. February 17 5. February 20 Date Ended Time Elapsed February 8 February 10 February 28 February 26 February 25 6 Days C. New Lesson 1. Motivation The teacher will show a real clock. What is this class? What is the use of a clock? 2. Presentation This morning we will learn how to tell and write correct time using analog and digital clock. 3. Modelling I have here a clock and I will show to you how to use this clock correctly. A clock has a short and long hand. The short hand is also called “hour hand” and the long hand is also called “minute hand”. For example the hour hand points on the number 8 and the minute hand is pointing on the number 5. What time is it? So let’s going to know that. Since the hour hand is on the number 8, automatically let’s going to copy the hour hand which is 8. Minute hand is count by five that means numbers from 1-12 is equivalent to 60. So let’s count 1-5 by 5 or just multiply 5X5=25. Therefore, the correct time is 8:25. (The teacher will going to give another example) 4. Guided Practice Look the hour hand and minute hand of the clock. Write the correct time of the given figures. 11 1. 12 1 2 10 3 4. 11 12 6 2 10 3 4 7 6 5 4 8 7 11 12 6 1 2 10 9 8 3 5 5. 1 2 9 4 7 1 10 3 5 6 2 8 12 11 3. 9 4 7 1 10 9 8 12 11 2. 9 3 4 8 7 6 5 5 5. Independent Practice Look at the digital clock. Draw the correct hour and minute hand position on the analog clock. 1. 7:20 4. 1:15 2. 8:05 5. 3:50 3. 10:30 6. Generalization Why is it important for us to know the correct time by using analog and digital clock? 7. Valuing It is important to know the correct time so that we are aware of our time schedule it is also important because it also serves as our guide on daily living. 8. Application Read and tell the time and choose the correct letter. 6:15 8:45 a. 2:10 b. 4:15 c. 4:10 a. 7:30 b. 8:30 c. 9:30 a. 12:45 b. 9:50 c. 11:45 a. 15 minutes and 6 hours b. 6 hours and 15 minutes a. eight o’clock b. eight forty five IV- Evaluation Directions: Write the correct time in digital clock and draw the hour and minute hand placement in Analog. 1. Two thirty 2. six o’clock and Thirty minutes 3. twelve o’clock 4. nine o’clock 5. seven fifteen V- Assignment Directions: Draw the correct hour and minute hand placement of the following: 1. 12:30 2. 1:00 3. 11:31 4. 11:15 5. 5:00 Prepared by: Lhord Jan Kim M.
