An EPIC Scavenger Hunt
1. You want to recommend a medication for one of your patients but want to
make sure it would not be contraindicated. Where would you find the patient’s
medication allergy history?
2. You want to compare the dose of a medication started during hospitalization
with their outpatient dose. Where would you find the outpatient dose of the
medication?
3. You want to recommend a medication for one of your patient’s but realize you
should see if the patient had ever had the medication before. Where would you
find that information?
4. You want to recommend a medication for your patient to take after discharge
but are concerned they may not be able to afford it. Where would you find
insurance/payer coverage?
5. Your patient is to be started on a medication that is contraindicated in patients
with prolonged QTc. Where would you find their most recent ECG?
6. You want to recommend increasing the dose of medication but need to make
sure they have not had a dose already today? Where would you find that
information?
7. Your patient is being treated for a urinary tract infection and you want to see if
the urine culture and sensitivity (C&S) report is available. Where would you find
the C&S report?
8. You must dose a patient according to their weight. Where would you find their
weight?
9. Your patient is receiving a prn sliding scale insulin. How would you find out how
much of that insulin they have been given in the past 24 hours?
10. A patient you have been following has an elevated TSH and you want to check
the outpatient refill history of their levothyroxine. Where would you find this
information?
11. You have a patient that is being treated with opioids for pain and you want to
know how effective they have been. Where would you find this patient’s pain
scores?
12. The staff pharmacist has ordered vancomycin for one of your patient’s and
you would like to know how they determined the dose. They have not yet written
a progress note but do have a completed “IVENT.” Where would you find it?
