Q 1. Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions.

Sometime later, the golden bird heard a hissing noise in the grass and a snake came
slithering by.
“Well, hello,” hissed the snake. “Who are you?”
“I’m the golden bird,” replied the bird proudly.
“Let me show you the jungle paths,” said the snake.
“No, thanks,” replied the bird rudely. “What can a snake possibly teach me? You have a
horrid hissing voice. You’ll be jealous of my beautiful song,” she said.
“Very well,” hissed the snake as she slithered away.
The golden bird was very hungry now. Just then, something moved on the tree trunk
behind her. She looked up and saw a chameleon. He lay against the trunk and was the
same colour. So the golden bird did not see him at first.
“Good day!” said the chameleon. “You’re the golden bird, aren’t you? When I’m in
danger, I do something wonderful. Let me show you.”

“No, thanks,” replied the bird. “What could a lizard like you teach me? Don’t you wish
you had golden feathers like mine?” “Well, I tried to help you,” muttered the chameleon,
and he darted away.
