Note: This advocacy proposal is inspired by the advocacy of pushcart educator, Efren Peñaflorida. His advocacy will serve as your guide in writing your own. Instructions: 1. Write an Advocacy Proposal. Use this advocacy worksheet. The following are the topics for your interest: ▪ Good governance (political) ▪ Environment (social) ▪ Health and sanitation ▪ Education (socio-cultural) ▪ Livelihood (economics) ▪ Sports (socio-cultural) 2. For the teacher’s expectation, refer to the rubric below. SECTION I: THE ISSUE Write down what the issue is that you are facing. Remember to include only facts. Hypothetically, think about the history of the issue, any interactions with professionals, etc. 1 SECTION II: CLARIFY THE ISSUE Think about the 2 or 3 most important parts of your issue. For example, “I could not get access to clean and safe potable water when I needed it” (Health and sanitation), or “There weren’t enough copies of textbooks for me to use one in a reasonable time”. (Education) SECTION III: DETERMINE YOUR GOALS AND OBJECTIVES What do you want to achieve with your advocacy efforts? For example, “More copies of books in my barangay high school” or “Accessible clean and safe potable water in our community”. 2 SECTION IV: TELL YOUR STORY Telling your story effectively means organizing your issue. Write down your experience in at least 100 words. SECTION V: AUDIENCE To whom do you want to tell your story? Make sure that your audience is someone able to assist you with your desired outcome. Include name, address, phone numbers and e-mail. (Hypothetical only) 3 SECTION VI: KEY MESSAGES Write down your 2 - 3 key messages that will engage your audience. Key messages should be 25 words only. SECTION VII: REQUEST State your “ask” – what is the one thing you are asking your audience to do for you? 4 SECTION VIII: NEXT STEPS Summarize what you have promised to do, and what your audience has promised to do. Include timeline/deadlines if applicable.
