Task 1 : School Based Experience (SBE) Report Writing (15%) Learning takes place throughout the life of an individual. Knowledge is formed in children through the child's interaction with the environment, parents, friends, teachers, neighbours and society in a child's life environment which in turn also influences the formation of information in a child's mind. (Vygotsky, 1978 p. 90) Based on the above statement, you are required to interview a teacher at the school where you carried out your School Based Experience (SBE). The interview should focus on the teaching and learning process, to see how the teacher address aspects of individual differences in his/her planning and also during his/her teaching and learning based on the aspects of individual differences in terms of physical, cognitive, social and background of students. Prepare a SBE Report Writing that shows an analytical elaboration of how the teacher considers individual differences from the physical, cognitive, social and background aspects of students in improving the quality of his/her teaching and learning in the classroom. The complete writing of this SBE report should be accompanied by evidences such as photographs and various appropriate resources. The SBE report should be written in 500 words. TASK 2 : Academic Writing (25%) A teaching and learning scenario in the classroom Cikgu Ramli starts the lesson by asking students to briefly describe what animals and plants need in order to live and grow. This was something they had already learned in Primary 2. After students list food, air and water, Cikgu Ramli presents them with the guided question for the lesson: “How do living things, including humans, interact with each other and with non-living things in an environment?” To generate interest in the topic, she invites students to think about a local environment near their school (such as a playground and park) and to list the possible interactions among the living and non-living things in that area. Students chart their responses, and compare their lists to other groups’ lists. Cikgu Ramli then shows a video about tapirs in Taman Negara. Students learn that the Malayan tapirs started to become endangered in 1986. In pairs Cikgu Ramli asks students if the decline in the tapir population of tapirs’ is related with the increasing numbers of palm oil plantation. As a class, they list other animals that live in Taman Negara based on what they saw in the video and discussed how the tapirs’ presence might affect the numbers and distributions of these other animals. Lastly if they think the tapirs would encroach into palm oil plantation leading to further hunting of the animals. He concludes the lesson by charting students’ questions about the interactions between animals and people in Taman Negara and tells them that in their next lesson, they will start thinking about the kinds of pattern there might be in the ways that organisms interact. Based on the teaching and learning scenario given, you are required to analyze Cikgu Ramli's teaching and learning from the aspects of learning theories, approaches, strategies and techniques he uses and its implications in classroom teaching and learning. The academic writing should be within 800 words.
