The original price of an object is the whole.
The markup percentage or tax percentage can be put into x %.
You then solve for the part.
When calculating markup or total price you must add your answer to the original price.
Example 1: An object that costs $40.99 is given 50% markup. What is the final price?
Example 2: An object is being sold for $109.99. BC has a 5% GST and 7% PST. What is
its total price after taxes?
Example 3: An object that I bought wholesale costs $20. I will put a 150% markup and
sell it. What is the object’s total price after taxes?
Unit Rate
For every 10 apples, I will buy 20 pears. How many apples am I buying per 1 pear?
1. When finding unit rate, you must make 2 ratios.
2. On one side, your ratio will be the information given to you in the question (10 apples /
20 pears).
3. On the other side, you make another fraction by keeping the same units on the top and
the bottom.
4. You will then fill in the last piece of information and solve for x.
