Topic: Plato’s virtue ethics

Learning Intent
At the end of the week, the students are expected to:
1. Identify the essential concepts of Plato’s Virtue Ethics by listing the four cardinal virtues with their
explanations.
2. Differentiate the different states of Plato and its functions by using graphic presentations.
3. Reflect on our search for wisdom from our ignorance in the allegory of the cave of Plato by writing reflection
paper.
I. Concept Notes
Plato’s virtue ethics is a route towards happiness or eudemonia(ethics) where man choose to leave from
ignorance (the allegory of the cave) and begin live a life of virtues (4 cardinal virtues) as a means to experience
enlightenment (philosopher king) and thereby attain knowledge (recollection) that freed one soul in the body.

Group activity: Problem solving
Suppose that someone murders a member in the family with some sort of a sharp-edged weapon; suppose that
there are no witnesses to the crime.
Instructions: Read the given situational problem above and, answer the following questions:
a. What sort of evidence might your community adduce to bring the unknown perpetrator to justice?
b. What might that justice entail?
c. Discuss in a graceful and intelligent essay that may reflect some of the ideas presented about Plato
Virtue Ethics.
