a) The general effect of paragraph 1 is the experience that the astronaut had while
in space. The phrase ‘observation bubble’ suggests that the bubble is a circular
shape and it is transparent. It also tells the readers that the bubble is placed in a
confined space. The writer compares the observation bay to a bubble which
suggests that the bubble is fragile and beautiful. It gives the readers an effect of
the fear of being trapped. ‘Performing their slow-motion ballet’ is imagery that
states that there is no gravity and also people and objects moving around. It also
suggests that people in the space station is moving slowly. The writer compares
the motion of astronauts to ballets which suggest that the movement of the
astronauts is precise. It gives the readers an effect of happiness and freedom.
The phrase ‘blue-green glory of the Earth’ gives an idea to the reader of how
beautiful and unpolluted the Earth is. It also tells the readers that the astronaut is
able to see the land and sea from space. It makes the readers fascinated and
surprised by the discovery.

b) The general effect of paragraph 4 is the looks and the description of the
spacesuit. The phrase ‘cheerfully coloured’ tells the readers that the phrase in an
alliteration. It suggests that the colours were brightly projected and also vivid. It
also tells the readers that this colour allows people to be in a relaxed and
enjoyable state. It gives the readers an effect of calmness and happiness.‘Stubby
cylinder’ states that the cylinder is wide and tall. The word ‘stubby’ from the
phrase suggests that the cylinder is thick enough to hold something heavy. It
gives the reader an effect of feeling relaxed and stress-free since the astronauts
do not need to worry about their tanks leaking. The phrase ‘ hospitable snugness’
tells the readers that living in the space station is comfortable and give the feeling
of home. It also tells the readers that the astronaut in the space station will be
able to enjoy themselves with the cosiness. This gives the readers a feeling of
warmth and also being welcomed. It gives the readers an effect of contentment.
