What is a corporate compliance program in healthcare? “Compliance program is a applicable program necessary for corporate compliance, a set of internal policies and procedures put into place to ensure safety, and order to comply with laws, rules, and regulations within a business or organization” (HealthStream, 2021). A compliance team is on that examines the rule set by the government and through that creating a compliance program fitting from the rules set forth by government bodies implementing them within the company. Corporate compliance in healthcare can be a major headache and stressful for health organizations. 7 components of a strong corporate compliance program in healthcare? Going over through the article it described 7 key points to why these components are essential to corporate compliance in healthcare. Written policies, procedures, and standards of conduct- basically explaining that it must have clearly defined its policies and expectations within its organization to all its employees. The oversight of the program, the compliance officer must oversee anything being done within the compliance program and report to the organizations CEO if anything wrong was to occur. Training and education this is one of they most important components within healthcare. This establishes within its organization or company that a set of standards and regulations are being taught to its employees to what can and what cannot be done within the compliance program set of rules, this includes new hires, and all current employees. Communication is a key point it must ensure that employees can effectively ask and express any questions or concerns about the compliance program. Monitoring to ensure the effectiveness of the compliance program and ensuring that they are aware of compliance risk and the regulations established. Discipline, making sure that the written policies, regulations, rules and laws are appropriately being followed and if not those who fail to comply with the programs expectations are to be taken with disciplinary actions. Corrective action, this is when the compliance committee takes its time and takes decisive action that will reduce the risk of non-compliance. What are compliance officers responsible for? Compliance officers help lead the compliance committee in implementing and managing the organizations compliance program such as creating, organizing, managing, and maintaining its policies and procedures. They also ensure that the hospital staff is properly trained and updated on any of the hospitals policies, procedures, that being updated constantly because of the change in healthcare laws and regulations. Compliance officers serve as a first line of defense to protect your organization. They put the best interest and decisions for the organization first with this it leads to a stronger compliance program.
