Assignment #9 - Build a School Project
1. Ideally the teacher who would be hired at our proposed school would be someone that
has worked at a school before or has experience in teaching. In addition, we want
teachers who are ethical, protect the students, and promote moral education. According to
the textbook, promoting moral education exhibits “trustworthiness, respect,
responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship,” (261). In addition, the textbook
emphasizes the importance of teachers protecting their students. If a teacher were to
suspect an abuse case, we would want them to speak up right away. We want teachers
that we know are looking out for our students. According to Danielle Gagnon, it is
important for teachers to have skills in “communication, listening, collaboration,
adaptability, empathy and patience,” (2019). We are seeking to find teachers with those
practical characteristics. We want our teachers to be knowledgeable and experienced in
the subject/grade they want to teach. Most importantly we want our teachers to be
passionate about teaching. The personal qualities of a teacher have an extreme impact on
the students' education. This will create a unique group of teachers for our school.
2. The administration is a very pertinent part in order for a school to succeed. Our
administration will include an assistant principal, principal, and a superintendent. The
University of Massachusetts Global website states, “Different job titles may require
different skills, but the best candidates for most school administrator positions are
typically compassionate, adaptable, patient and organized. They must also be well-versed
in collaboration and negotiation in order to effectively advocate for policies that benefit
the school,” (2021). School administration involves a variety of professional outcomes.
While everyday obligations differ by a specific job position, all of these individuals have
basic duties, such as serving students, aiding teachers, and managing school records. We
want all of the school operations to be overseen by the principal. This might entail things
like supervising daily school functions, organizing curriculum, and ensuring that kids are
in a secure and effective educational setting. The assistant principal usually aids the
principal in these executive decisions. We want the superintendent to oversee the whole
school district (2021). All of these professions require a masters degree in educational
administration.
