Judicial Branch Simulation: No Vehicles on the Sidewalk Made With Love By: Jenifer Bazzit Judicial Branch Simulation: No Vehicles on the Sidewalk Recently, several citizens in Bracksville have complained that people are parking their cars on the sidewalks in the city. As you can imagine, a car being parked on the sidewalk causes great difficulty for people passing by on the sidewalk. The City Council of Bracksville created a new law and posted signs in many places around town. NO VEHICLES ON THE SIDEWALK This simple law should solve the problem, right? Wrong! Since the law was created, several situations have challenged the law. The job of the local judge is to interpret the law. Will you help the judge interpret this law? NO VEHICLES ON THE SIDEWALK Help the judge interpret the law by writing your opinion as to whether each scenario violated the law or did not violate the law. A judge interprets a law by considering the wording of the law and all of the available definitions and information concerning the law. The dictionary defines “vehicle” as “a machine that is used to carry people or goods from one place to another.” Next to each scenario, write a paragraph stating and explaining your opinion on whether the situation violated the law or did not violate the law, “No Vehicles on the Sidewalk.” Name: __________________ NO VEHICLES ON THE SIDEWALK The dictionary defines “vehicle” as “a machine that is used to carry people or goods from one place to another.” Next to each scenario, write a paragraph stating and explaining your opinion on whether the situation violated the law or did not violate the law: “No Vehicles on the Sidewalk.” #1 Bennie and Sara Butler, brother and sister, rode their bikes on the sidewalk on the way to school last week.
