INSTRUCTIONS
1. This is an individual assignment and should be submitted individually.
2. The assignment consists of 5 questions answer all questions by clearly showing your working
methods.
3. Submit either handwritten and scanned or typed answers on LMS by the date of 31st March 2021
7pm Uganda Time. Note you will not be able to upload your solutions past that date.
4. Any form of plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated.
1. A man walks 6.5km in a direction making an angle of 30o west of south. How far west and
south is the man from his starting point.
2. Boats X and Y leave Port Bell at the same time. Boat X travels at 30km/h in a direction 45o
west of south, while boat Y travels 30o east of south at 35km/hr. What is the distance
between the two Boats 120 minutes after they depart from the port.
3. In the given picture, you see the motion path of cannonball. Find the maximum height it
can reach, horizontal distance it covers and total time from the given Information. (The
angle between cannonball and horizontal is 53º).
4. A particle starts from the origin at t=0 with a velocity of 15i m/s and moves in the XY
plane with a constant acceleration of (2i+4j)m/s2. At the instant the x-coordinate of the
particle is 30m. With the help of a sketch, determine the value of its Y coordinate.
5. At t=0, a particle leaves the origin with a velocity of 10m/s in the positive Y direction. Its
acceleration is given by a= (4i-3j)m/s2. At the instant the particle reaches its maximum Y
coordinate. With the aid of a sketch, how far is the particle from the origin.
