action chain
In Global Services, a logical method to group action components into a flow within application maps.
Action chains can be invoked only within response chains or other action chains; they cannot be called
from a link. Action chains act like a subroutine and usually return to the response chain or action chain
from which they are invoked. Similar to response chains, action chains define chain options that apply to
all action components embedded in the action chain. See also and action component and response
chain.
action component
Java code that calls the business logic associated with a request in order to produce data that is
displayed in a page. Action components read and interpret request data, start Enterprise Services, and
create data beans. Action components populate a set of data beans that are used by JSP pages.
Teamcenter provides standard action components; customizers can write additional action components.
action handler
Handler used to extend and customize workflow task actions. Action handlers perform such actions as
displaying information, retrieving the results of previous tasks (inherit), notifying users, setting object
protections, and launching applications. See also task handler.
action rule

such as maximum sizes. Values defined in the server cache configuration file and in the client cache
configuration file can override the default values defined in the master configuration file.
FMS master host
Host that contains the FMS master configuration file (fmsmaster.xml). This file is optionally mounted at
each FSC server.
FMS server cache (FSC)
FMS process that runs on a server host and performs as a volume server (when running on a host where
a volume is located or directly mounted) or a cache server (when running on a host where a volume is
not located or directly mounted) and a configuration server. As a volume or cache server, the FSC checks
all file access requests for a ticket that Teamcenter generates to authorize file access. As a cache server,
it manages two segment file caches, one for downloading files and one for uploading files. As a
configuration server, it provides FMS configuration information to file client caches and other FSCs. As a
transient server, it delivers PLM XML and other transient files to clients. A minimum of one FSC must be
deployed in any Teamcenter installation. Multiple FSCs can be deployed, with each FSC performing one
designated purpose as either a volume, a cache, or a configuration server.

installation assembly
• Assembly that defines the purpose of a component in a product structure. The collective set of
installation assemblies for a product represent the generic structure of the product. Within a product
development process, the installation assembly is an engineering building block that collects
components of a close physical relationship in the context of the end product. Installation assemblies
do not contain background parts. Appearances of components are defined in a single installation
assembly per product structure.
• Node in the CAD structure to which design solutions are added and variant conditions applied,
according to the named variant expression selected on the architecture element. An installation
assembly (IA) can be associated with an architecture element to guide the designer by limiting the
named variant expressions from which to choose when adding a design to the product. Any structures
above an installation assembly are for organizational and navigational purposes only—there are no
transforms or geometry above an IA. IAs are designed in product space and are therefore all
positioned correctly relative to one another when viewed together.
instance
