Posted on: Wednesday, September 8, 2021 1:55:20 PM EDT Welcome! Hello and welcome to TRV103 - Tourism Destination Exploration I My name is Pamela Pereira and I look forward to teaching the exciting world of North, Central and South American Geography. For those of you who are new not only to my class, but to Seneca College, it is a very exciting time and to some, can be a little overwhelming at first. I am here to help you be successful in this course and am looking forward to assisting you in your academic endeavours. This course will focus on North American destinations in their uniqueness as tourism destinations. You will gain the knowledge of major tourism destinations of the following countries: Canada, United States of America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Antarctica, by examining the physical landscapes, resources, history, culture, heritage, products, services, and attractions unique to each regional area within each country. Before our first class of the semester, please take the time to familiarize yourself with the blackboard class menu located on the left side of your screen (see note on "How to navigate this course in Blackboard" below). To get you started, I have posted a checklist of things to do prior to our first class under the "Course Documents" tab. How the classes will operate: Each Thursday, I will load the course material that is to be covered that week under the appropriate week in the "Weekly Lessons" tab. EG. Sept. 9, - I will load the material for our first week under Week 1. As some of you are in different time zones, you are able to access the material 24 hours a day during that week. Our virtual class will occur every Thursday and will begin at our class time of 1:30pm. I will post the link to the meeting in an announcement tomorrow morning, and it will remain the same throughout the semester. You will be able to join me online during this time to discuss that week’s material, ask questions, as well as expectations for the upcoming week. The link is also posted in the menu on the left hand side. You can simply click on it and it will take you directly to the meeting. Please note: these virtual sessions are not mandatory, but I strongly encourage you to attend if possible, especially our first class tomorrow, so I can go over the course with you. Should you have any questions or concerns at any time, please email me at pamela.pereira@senecacollege.ca (my contact information can also be located under the "Facilitator and Student Advisor" tab). I will get back to you within 24 hours, if not sooner. Please remember to check your Seneca College email and the Announcement section of the class site, as I will communicate with the class through them. Enjoy your first week! Pam How to navigate this course in Blackboard: Whether you are new or returning to online learning, take time to carefully review all of the information provided to you through email and within this course. Pay special attention to the screen layout. The MENU at the left is always “on” as you work your way through the course. Clicking on any of the MENU items on the left allows you to access items and information. Carefully review these documents and again, remember I will be available throughout your course to answer any questions.
