Tableau | Python COURSE GOALS: Each year, a vast amount of data is generated, collected and stored, and has become an importation strategic asset for many organizations. This increase in data availability requires decision makers to rely on the systematic analysis and interpretation of this data to make strategic decisions. This course provides an overview of the fundamentals concepts and tools needed to support effective data-driven decision making. Students will be encouraged to develop dataoriented thinking and emphasis will be placed on applications, concepts and interpretation of results, rather than theory and calculations. Syllabus Quiz The Syllabus Quiz must be completed during first week of class. This quiz is not timed and is open notes. The exact deadlines for this portion of the course grade can be found on course website. B. Quizzes The concepts and tools being taught in class will be reinforced using quizzes. There will be 12 quizzes in total. Date, Time & Location: A new quiz will be assigned for every class using quiz tool in the course website on Canvas. The quizzes will be timed and will be available from 11 am on Tuesdays & Thursdays to 11:59pm the following day. Materials: The quizzes will be based on the assigned readings and video lectures from the previous class and will be listed in the quiz description. The answers will be made available to students after the deadline for the quiz has passed. All quizzes are individual assignments and will be closed book and closed notes. Grades: Quiz grades will be made available immoderately after the deadline has passed. Four of the lowest quiz scores will be dropped. Each quiz will be worth 2% of the total grade. Makeup & Extensions: No makeups or extensions are available for any of the quizzes in this course. C. Tests The course content is divided into 4 parts, and there will be one test covering the topics for each of the parts. Date, Time & Location: The tests will be administered using the quiz tool in the course website on Canvas and proctored using HonorLock. Please review the course calendar on Canvas to for the dates and times that the tests will be available. Materials: The tests will be based on the assigned readings and video lectures on the topics associated for each test. All tests are individual assignments and will be closed book and closed notes. Grades: Test grades will be made available immediately after the deadline has passed. The lowest score will be dropped. Each test will be worth 15% of the total grade. Makeup: No makeup tests will be provided for this course, unless it is due to a University of Florida sanctioned excuse. Proper documentation will have to be provided in support, clearly indicating: (a) the name of the student, (b) the reason for absence and (c) the dates of the absence. This documentation must also be verified by the Dean of Students Office. Please inform the instructor at least one week prior to the scheduled test for a reschedule date. All exam dates are available on the course website on Canvas from the beginning of the semester. If you have a conflict, it is your responsibility to inform the instructor via email during the first week of the course. D. Projects This course will require students to complete three projects, each on a different Business Analytics tool. Date, Time & Location: The projects for this class must be completed and submitted using the assignments tool in the course website on Canvas. Materials: The projects will be based on the tutorials posted on the course website. Grades: Project grades will be posted within a week after the deadline has passed. All projects must be completed, and no scores will be dropped. Makeup or Extensions: No makeup projects or extensions will be provided for this course. E. Extra Credit There are no extra credit assignments for this course. F. Regrading Request Please note that any request to re-grade any component of your submissions (quiz, tests or projects) must be made within the week you receive the grade. Given the speed with which the course progresses, any request beyond this deadline cannot be considered. The only exception to this rule is a documented emergency. All requests must be made in writing directly to aditimukherjee@ufl.edu. CLASS POLICIES: A. Class Attendance, Participation and Discipline A1. Attendance: Class sessions will provide useful information – both for learning the topics covered in the course and for working on projects. The text and other reading materials alone are not likely to be sufficient for one to do well in the course. Attendance is not compulsory during regular classes. However, if you miss a class, you will be responsible for all materials discussed during class and assigned in the class readings for that class. There will be no make-up class assignments, exercises, crosswords, quizzes or exams. The Zoom class sessions will be audio visually recorded for students in the class to refer back and for enrolled students who are unable to attend the live sessions. Students who participate with their camera engaged or utilize a profile image are agreeing to have their video or image recorded. If you are unwilling to consent to have your profile or video image recorded, be sure to keep your camera off and do not use a profile image. Likewise, students who un-mute during class and participate orally are agreeing to have their voices recorded. If you are not willing to consent to have your voice recorded during class, you will need to keep your mute button activated and communicate exclusively using the "chat" feature, which allows students to type questions and comments live. The chat will not be recorded or shared. Participation: Student participation in class discussions is crucial because it introduces alternative viewpoints and helps clarify concepts for the class. I expect highest level of participation during the entire module. You should complete the assigned readings before coming to class. I will expect you to be ready with answers to questions related to the readings. A3. Discipline: I expect you to maintain the decorum of the class at all times. As with any other group activity, please be acutely aware that your actions in class may have negative externalities that can collectively affect the performance of the entire group. Please keep the following in mind: • Students are expected to attend all classes and arrive in class on time and stay till the end of the class. If a student must be late or must leave a class early, he or she should make prior arrangements with the instructor. If you cannot be on time or must leave the classroom for any reason, please do not bother coming/returning to the classroom. • Students should refrain from using the computer during class time for activities that are not directly related to the topic being discussed in class. These activities include, but are not limited to, instant messaging, web surfing, game playing, social networking etc. • Students are expected to respect the rights of their classmates and should never exhibit any behavior that is disruptive to the learning experience of anyone. For example, cell phones should not be allowed to ring, and calls should not be made or taken, inside the classroom. You will be asked to switch off your phones during quizzes and exams conducted in the classroom. A4. Recording: Students are allowed to record video or audio of class lectures. However, the purposes for which these recordings may be used are strictly controlled. The only allowable purposes are (1) for personal educational use, (2) in connection with a complaint to the university, or (3) as evidence in, or in preparation for, a criminal or civil proceeding. All other purposes are prohibited. Specifically, students may not publish recorded lectures without the written consent of the instructor A “class lecture” is an educational presentation intended to inform or teach enrolled students about a particular subject, including any instructor-led discussions that form part of the presentation, and delivered by any instructor hired or appointed by the University, or by a guest instructor, as part of a University of Florida course. A class lecture does not include lab sessions, student presentations, clinical presentations such as patient history, academic exercises involving solely student participation, assessments (quizzes, tests, exams), field trips, private conversations between students in the class or between a student and the faculty or lecturer during a class session.
