Need for Model Leadership Behavior
The first model leadership behavior is listening to the employees. This will allow the
leader to understand and identify needs and find incentives that motivate employees. This
behavior is also going to build trust and credibility with your team (Seeley, 2019). Because both
businesses are so far apart, having a leader that can listen and act is critical for the change to be a
success. Based on results from the Exit Interviews, it was shown that 31% of respondents left
their position because of the relationship with management. This is why it is critical that leaders
always listen and act with the information given from their teams.
The second model leadership behavior is developing others. Employees need additional
training in cross cultural awareness and collaboration (Waters, 2020). By developing both of
these skills and allowing employees time during work or time off to complete these trainings will
increase collaboration between departments and levels of the company. This is also going to
allow leaders to cultivate an environment that encourages knowledge sharing. Data from the Exit
Interviews show 29% of respondents left their position because of the lack of career
opportunities. Building up and developing others is going to allow them the skills necessary to
implement the change and take over the new positions and roles opening up and the change
occurs.
How Leaders Should Coach and Mentor
A stakeholder in change have some form of interest in the change which can include
targets of the change, managers, or other interested parties (Changing Minds, n.d.). Change
leaders create a vision for the change. This person needs the ability to influence and inspire
3
action in others. They are going to respond with vision and the ability to pivot during periods of
growth, disruption, or uncertain times (Changing Minds, n.d.).
Change leaders need to involve the employees in the change process and include them in
the design and planning process. They need to model the behavior and “walk the talk”. This is
going to provide an environment that shares, learns, and continuously improves. They are also
going to set realistic goals with their employees and provide feedback at set times (Nevenhoven,
2019). This is going to allow them to continuously develop, engage with their leaders, and build
trust in the workplace.
The Role of HR as a Facilitator of Change
Human Resources major role is making sure that the change is identified, developed, and
carried out in a respectful and appropriate way. These are going to be strategies that build
relationships within management, providing appropriate feedback, engaging employees, and
gathering data via the employee engagement surveys. They are going to drive the changes and
create positive value and improve the organizational effectiveness (Cohen, 2017). Furthermore,
they are going to provide the training in cross-cultural awareness.
