Having abundance in all things (family, emotions, intellect, personal goal, etc.). Doing the will of God in our lives – His will is always good, pleasing and perfect. Obtaining eternal salvation for our souls. INTRODUCTION LifeClass is: AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET GOD As your true Father. AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE RESTORED Spiritually, personally and in your family relationships. Show the image of the cross. Explain that the cross was made of 2 pieces of wood: one horizontal and the other vertical. God provided reconciliation on the cross. Firstly, with Himself and then with our neighbor. God’s heart is that we would live a life of peace and harmony with everyone as far as possible. (Colossians 1:20) “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” (1 John 2:15-17 NLT) Explain to your students that: “Today, God is inviting you to choose the path that leads to eternal life.” CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE God wants to make us new and mend what has been broken in us because of the wrong decisions we have made. AN OPPORTUNITY TO FIND PROVISION God longs to give us everything we need: spiritual, emotional and material provision. Note: Prepare in prayer: ask the Lord to anoint the lesson and enable you to share the message in a real and relevant way. Use our suggested points and add your own personal testimonies. Remember not to spend more than 20 minutes speaking. Say a short prayer to begin. Use the following outline to explain this week’s message INTRODUCTION The Best Deal of Your Life MATTHEW 13:45-46 AGAIN, THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS LIKE A MERCHANT LOOKING FOR FINE PEARLS. WHEN HE FOUND ONE OF GREAT VALUE, HE WENT AWAY AND SOLD EVERTTHING HE HAD AND BROUGHT IT. M A T T HE W 13:45-4 6 Ask the students to explain why they think the cross is the most valuable gift God has given us. Speak about the power of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Emphasize that everything we need is found at the cross: redemption for our souls, inner healing and restoration, love (both to receive and to give), and the abundant provision of all we need, both material provision and otherwise (love, joy, peace, etc.). CONCEIVE 40 MINUTES AIMS To understand why following Jesus is the best deal we could ever make. OBJECTIVES To identify the spiritual, emotional and physical blessings we receive at the cross. To accept that Jesus died so that we could live to the full. ACTIVITY 1 TOPIC CONTENT JESUS TOOK MY PLACE ON THE CROSS Just like a compassionate father, God looked for a way to save us. He found that the only way to redeem mankind was through His Son, Jesus Christ. God had to make a decision: either destroy all of humanity, condemning them for all eternity, or punish the human race through the person of His only Son. ”But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5) JESUS PAID THE PRICE FOR MY FREEDOM ON THE CROSS Jesus once said “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin” (John 8:34) Through His sacrifice, Jesus opened wide the doors of the prison of sin where the enemy had long detained us. Jesus set us free from everything that had driven us to sin (wrong thoughts, wrong desires, addictions, habitual sins, etc.). JESUS TOOK THE WORST OF ME ON THE CROSS AND GAVE ME HIS BEST IN EXCHANGE The moment we accept Jesus into our hearts, all the evil we were is absorbed by the power or the cross. God takes our rebellious and sinful nature and places it upon the body of His Son, Jesus Christ. All the blessings of God become ours when we give our entire lives to Him. Paul said: “Consequently just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people” (Romans 5:18), Jesus has made us righteous before God, carrying all our unrighteousness upon Himself in His death. 10-15 MINUTES This week’s testimony: “The Best Deal of Your Life” ACTIVITY 2 25 MINUTES 4|LifeClass CREATE 25 MINUTES AIMS To understand and participate in the exchange that took place on the cross of Calvary. OBJECTIVE To see how this exchange works in practice. To identify some of the most common weaknesses we have as people. To discover what strengths can be found at the cross, which counteract all our weaknesses. ACTIVITY 1 antidote would be. The teacher will write the strength on one of the post-it notes they kept for themselves and place the weakness on the cross. In this instance, neither team would win a point. The game ends when all of the weakness are stuck on the cross. If there are strength post-it note left on the cross, everyone should decide what weaknesses these strength could be exchange for. The teacher should write them on their own post-it notes and exchange them with the remaining strength on the cross. The winning team receives candy as a prize. 15 MINUTES Stick up the large paper cross at the front of the classroom or draw one on the whiteboard. Divide the room into two groups Give each group a different colored pack of post-it notes (each pack need to have the same number of post-its). Keep one pack of post-its for yourself. One group will have the job of writing down the positive things we can receive from Jesus, for example, strength, courage, joy, etc. The other group should write down all the weaknesses we need to leave at the cross, for example, laziness, cowardice, sadness, etc. None of the groups should know what the other group is writing. The students should use all of the post-it notes they-have been given. When they have finished, ask the group that wrote down the strengths to come and stick their post-it notes all over the cross at the front. Once they have returned to their seats, explain the game: You will start to call out each letter of the alphabet. Those who wrote a weakness beginning with that letter should shout the weakness out and someone from the other team should shout out a strength that serves as an antidote to that weakness. If there are no weaknesses that begin with that letter, simply move on to the next. The person who has the post-it note with the weakness written on it should stand up quickly find the posy-it note that has the antidote and swap the weakness post-it note for the strength post-it. If they do not find it within 15 seconds, the point goes to the team that wrote the strengths and the teacher swaps the weakness for the strength. If the student does find the strength post-it note within the 15 seconds the period will be awarded to the team that wrote down the weaknesses. If the students have not written a strength that counteract the weakness. Everyone will decide together what the 5|LifeClass WEEKLY CHALLENGE 5 MINUTES Encourage the students to go back over their notes from today’s lesson. Fill the glass marked Sin with a mixture of water and iodine, again until it is just less than half full. This should produce a dark liquid. Completely fill the glass marked JESUS with a mixture of water and bleach. Pour some of the Sin mixture into the glass labeled You. This will demonstrate the effect of sin when it enters our lives. It stains us and makes us dirty. Pour some of the liquid from the JESUS glass into the You glass. This will demonstrate that Jesus brings clarity and cleanses You, removing whatever effect Sin may have had. Once the experiment is complete, take a moment to describe the two natures that battle within us: One is our sinful nature. And the other is the nature that has been made new by JESUS. Use our suggested points and add your own personal testimonies. Remember not to spend more than 20 minutes speaking. TOPIC CONTENT Explain that the invitations they just received represent an invitation from God and that He very much wants to have a personal relationship with each one of them. YOU ARE INVITED TO BE MY FRIEND Human being were created to live in a communion with God and with their neighbor which is why we are able to relate to Him and to others through friendship. A friend can become even closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24) and being a friend of God is one of the most extraordinary experiences we could ever have. Abraham was considered a friend of God (James 2:23) and was able to see extraordinary things during his lifetime because of this friendship: an entire country was given to him and his descendants as their inheritance (Genesis 13:14); he was told about the destruction that would come upon the city where his nephew was living and he was able to intercede for his kin and the city (Genesis 18:16-33); he had a son when he was one hundred years old (Genesis 21:5); his descendants remain today (the people of Israel); and all the nations of the earth are blessed because of him (Jesus was born a Jew for the salvation of the world). While friendship in itself is a force to be reckoned with, God’s heart is that we would enter into such a close relationship with Him that we would become one with Him in Spirit. That is why Jesus came into the world. A sinful man CANNOT enter into relationship with a holy God. Jesus removed our sin so that we could have a relationship with Him. Paul compares the relationship between Christ and the church to the relationship between a man and his wife (Ephesians 5:31-32). The relationship is so intimate that they become one. “But whoever is united with the Lord is one with Him is Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:17). YOU ARE INVITED EVERYDAY INTRODUCTION Discover the Secret That Will Transform Your Life. YOU ARE INVITED Introduce the subject, mentioning the importance of spending time along with God so that we can have a deep friendship and relationship with Jesus. Write the names of the students on the front of the envelopes (one name per envelope). Do not forget to print the invitations in such a way that they fit into the envelopes. Give each of the students the envelope with their name on and their invitation inside. 12 | L i f e C l a s s Just as we spend time with a person we want to get to know, we need to set aside a special time to be alone with God everyday so that we can speak to Him. Speaking to God is as simple as speaking to a person. We call this kind of conversation prayer. Jesus did not teach His disciple how to preach, but He did teach them how to pray. This helps us understand the importance of prayer in the life of every believer (Matthew 6:5-15). PRAYER TIPS The best way to start in prayer is by giving thanks and praising God (Psalm 100:4). Thankfulness’ is the key that opens the door into the presence of God. We should speak to God with sincerity and without formalities (there is no need to use archaic language or complicated words). The best we can do is be who we are. It is important to remember that God is our Father and that He loves us. We can therefore come to Him with confidence. Divide the students into groups of four or five people each. Write the following Bible verse on the board. The students should then write them down in their notebooks. If possible print out a template (with just the Bible verses) and give at least one copy to each group. Ask the students to fill in the table with the missing information (all His characteristics). YOU ARE INVITED TO MY TABLE Our conversation with God is never unilateral. He also wants to speak to us and He does this through the Bible. Share a testimony that demonstrates how God has spoken to you through His Word. Your testimony should be short, specific and something practical your students should be able to relate to what you are saying. Emphasize the fact that the Bible is different from other books because it is not the product of human thinking. It was inspired by the Holy Spirit. That is why it continues to be relevant today. Highlights the verses that impact you most as you are reading your portion for the day. Write those verses out in a small notebook and memorize them. Also write down why they impacted you. ACTIVITY 3 10 MINUTES Ask the students how they have found praying and reading the Bible so far. Answer any questions that might come up, keeping in mind what the Bible teaches about prayer and the Scriptures. CREATE 25 MINUTES ACTIVITY 2 5 MINUTES AIMS To understand that we can come to know who Jesus is as we begin to relate to Him and His Word. OBJECTIVES To identify the characteristics of Jesus according to the Scriptures. ACTIVITY 1 10 MINUTES 13 | L i f e C l a s s Encourage the students to write their own prayer (in their own words). Expressing their desire to know God more. Ask them to include some questions they would like to ask God so that they can know more about Him encourage them to pray, asking Him their questions and writing down the way in which He answers them. WEEKLY CHALLENGE 5 MINUTES Encourage the students to go back over their notes from today’s lesson. Set them the challenge of reading their student book every day and completing the exercises. Encourage them to think about which activity they enjoy most as they read through the book during the week so that they can share their thoughts in the following class. PRAYER WELCOME 10 MINUTES Allow the students to come in and sit down. Revise the most relevant points from last week’s class (Discover the Secret that Will Transform Your Life). Ask the students how they got on during the week – you could review the various activities you set them last week or you could simply give them the opportunity to share their thoughts. 5 MINUTES ACTIVITY 1 Lead the students in prayer so that they can: Come to know God as their best friend. Understand the scriptures without any problems. Love prayer from now on. 7 MINUTES Divide the class into groups of between 5 and 7 students each. Determine to have a devotional time every day. Play the following game to encourage them to make a decision: Note: If necessary, take some extra time to pray for your students and minister them. Be careful not to run over the allocated time of each class. Place the four cardboard boxes at the front of the class. Each box should have the flag of a country that appeals to the students. WEEK 7 YOUR DECISIONS DEFINE YOU ESTIMATED TIME 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES RESOURCES Pens Computer and Projector Four small pieces of blank paper. Four small cardboard boxes of the same size. Slides and testimony (see extra material) Four flags from countries considered to be world powers. CONNECT 25 MINUTES AIMS To re-evaluate decisions. OBJECTIVES To become aware of how important the decisions we make are. To understand that there are consequences to every decision we make in life (whether good or bad). 14 | L i f e C l a s s Tell the students that the government has given them a scholarship to go and study whatever they want in any of the countries represented by the four boxes. Each country has a maximum of two places per group. So the students will need to decide who will go to each of the countries. If a lot of them want to go to the same country, they will need to negotiate within their groups so that no more than two of them go to each country. Give the students 5 minutes to make their decisions. Once their decisions have been made, explain to them that the boxes are also time Capsules, and that they contain news about the travelers, 5 years after their arrival at their destinations. Each box should have one of these four situations in them: 1. The offer was a scam and the travelers became victims of human trafficking. 2. The airplane they were traveling in experienced technical difficulties and fell from the sky, leaving no survivors. 3. When they arrived in their new city they didn’t get involved in a church and they started to slowly and painfully grow cold in their faith until they became like an unbeliever again. 4. While they were studying, they met the person of their dreams and got married. Their time at university also opened doors in that city for their career and their ministry. Open each box and read the corresponding situations to the class. Explain that every decision we make has consequences and they are often things that are beyond our control. Emphasize that we need to identify a way to make right choices that will bring good consequences to our lives. ACTIVITY 2 5 MINUTES Read the story of the separation of Abraham and Lot (Genesis 13:1-9). Explain that Lot had to make a decision: the whole land was before him and he could choose to go wherever he wanted. His destiny and his family’s future were in his hands. Ask the students to write down one right decision and one wrong decision they have made. GOOD INTENTIONS ARE NOT ENOUGH Encourage a few of them to share the experiences with the class. Explain the motivation behind the decision Lot made (Genesis 13:10-11). He saw that the land was well watered and fertile. He was thinking about what he believed to be good for him and his family. However that was not enough. CONCEIVE 30 MINUTES AIMS Read what happened to his family (Genesis 19:26-36). Explain that something very similar to what happened in the previous game happened to Lot. He thought that he had made a good decision… but the consequences were disastrous. To understand that we can rely on God to help us make our decisions. To begin to ask God about each of our decisions. OBJECTIVES To establish sound criteria according to the Word of God so that we can make decisions in the right way. To understand that God has everything under control. ACTIVITY 1 7 MINUTES This week’s testimony. “Your Decision Defines You” ACTIVITY 2 20 MINUTES THE SAFE PATH Explain by contrast that Abraham did not make the decision; he went where God told him to go (Genesis 13:14-17) and he and his descendants took possession of the land forever. We do not know what consequences our decisions will bring but God does! And we can trust in the fact that He never makes mistakes (Isaiah 55:9). If we allow ourselves to be guided by Him… we will always get to the place we should be going. If you have enough time share a personal testimony that illustrates the point. Your testimony should help the students understand that when we seek God’s direction in decision making, we will always end up where we need to be. Note: Prepare in prayer: ask the Lord to anoint the lesson and enable you to share the message in a real and relevant way. Use our suggested points and add your own personal testimonies. Remember not to spend more than 20 minutes speaking. CREATE 25 MINUTES Say a short prayer to begin. Use the following outline and the student book to explain this week’s message. INTRODUCTION Your Decisions Define You AIMS To determine to establish the will help us make decision with the Word of God. OBJECTIVES To identify and evaluate the normally use to make decisions. TOPIC CONTENT ACTIVITY 1 DECISIVE MOMENTS 15 | L i f e C l a s s 15 MINUTES Organize the students into the same groups as at the start of the class. A good amount of paper of different colors, sizes and textures Ask the groups to create either a poster or a radio commercial about: How to make good decisions. The commercial should not last for more than one minute. CONNECT Ask the groups to present their work to the class. 25 MINUTES WEEKLY CHALLENGE 5 MINUTES Encourage the students to go back over their notes from today’s lesson. Set them the challenge of reading their student book every day and completing the exercises. Encourage them to think about which activity they enjoy most as they read through the book during the week so that they can share their thoughts in the following class. PRAYER 5 MINUTES Lead the students in prayer so that they can: Hear God’s direction and make right decisions. Determine to do the will of God for their lives. Understand that God has everything under control He can help to recover the negative situations that have come about because of some of the decisions we have made. Note: If necessary, take some extra time to pray for your students and minister to them. Be careful not to run over the allocated time of each class. WEEK 8 NOTHING LESS THAN GOD’S BEST ESTIMATED TIME 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES To see ourselves as children of God OBJECTIVES To distinguish which attributes are associated with parents and children? To understand that we have the right to be children of God because we have decided to believe in Jesus. To memorize Romans 8:15. WELCOME 10 MINUTES Allow the students to come in and sit down. Revise the most relevant points from last week’s class (Your Decisions Define You). Ask the students how they got on during the week you could review the various activities you set them last week or you could simply give them the opportunity to share their thoughts. ACTIVITY 1 5 MINUTES Invite those who are parents to move toward one side of the classroom. (Only use this activity if you are aware of the demographics of your class and are sure it will work). Ask those who are not yet parents to stand on the other side. Give each of the students in both groups a blank piece of paper and ask them to write down at least two positive characteristics they have as either parents or son and daughters. These could be the characteristics that have most marked them in their roles. Give the students just 5 minutes to write their lists. RESOURCES Blank sheet of paper Several pairs of scissor Glue sticks or equivalent Different colored markers iPad/computer and projector Slides and video testimony (see extra material). 16 | L i f e C l a s s AIMS Bring the students back together and share a little of your own personal experience about what it means to be a son or daughter. Also speak about your experience as a parent (if you are one) or mention what it is about your father or mother that has impacted you positively. Connect the activity to this week’s theme. Explaining that we have all been called children of God because we have decided to follow Jesus. ACTIVITY 2 10 MINUTES Organize the students into groups of 4 or 5. Ask the groups to write a song using Romans 8:15. Encourage them to take a video of their song on a cell phone. Then ask them to send you the video. Choose the song you like the best and shown it at the end of the class. INTRODUCTION Nothing Less Than God’s Best Read Romans 8:15-17 aloud. Just as a father adopts a child in the natural. God adopts us as His children when we decide to accept Jesus into our hearts. This makes us heirs of His kingdom, His promises and all the blessings He has prepared for us. Abba is the Aramaic word for Daddy. This is the most affectionate term a child could use to address their father. TOPIC CONTENT DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK GOD CONCEIVE 30 MINUTES AIMS To understand that God has accepted us and adopted us as His children. To overcome the barriers and arguments we might face as we try to see ourselves as we really are as children of God; to feel that we have the right to come close to Him, to know Him and to ask Him for what we need. OBJECTIVES To identify the things that could stop us from confidently coming to God to ask Him to meet our needs. To understand that God wants to bless us and that His will is always good, pleasing and perfect. ACTIVITY 1 7 MINUTES This week’s testimony: “Nothing Less Than God’s Best” ACTIVITY 2 20 MINUTES Note: Prepare in prayer: ask the Lord to anoint the lesson and enable you to share the message in a real and relevant way. Use our suggested points and add your own personal testimonies. Remember not to spend more than 20 minutes speaking. Say a short prayer to begin. Use the following outline and the student’s book to explain this week’s message. 17 | L i f e C l a s s Refers to the introductory video, emphasizing how Sara received her inheritance from her father (an inheritance of faith and ministry) and how she learned to be a daughter, and more specifically TO ASK. Share a personal testimony about how you have been able to conquer something you longed for through faith. The purpose of this teaching is to show the students that they can have a direct and personal relationship with their heavenly Father. GOD’S WILL FOR HIS CHILDREN God has plans to prosper us and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11) and His will is good pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2). We can therefore trust that He wants to bless us and prosper us in everything we do. To be able to receive all His blessings. We need. We need to learn how to behave as His children to act in accordance with the Spirit and not with the fleshly nature. (For more information. See day 45 in the student book). When we decide to follow Jesus, God fills us with spiritual, intellectual and physical strength. He perfects our weaknesses and guides us to make right decisions so that we can become more than conquerors. The students should declare in faith every morning: “Thank you Father, because I will see your good, pleasing and perfect will fulfilled in my life today. CREATE 15 MINUTES AIMS To determine to change bad attitudes, thoughts and actions wherever necessary. To carefully evaluate each of our attitudes, thoughts and actions before they take root, according to the criteria we will explore in the activity (good, pleasing and perfect). OBJECTIVES To identify what kinds of thoughts, attitudes and actions we allow in our daily lives. To understand that everything we do should be good, pleasing and perfect, just like the character and will of God. This week, the students should use the filter of the Word of God to evaluate every one of their words, thoughts, attitudes and actions. Next session, they should briefly describe how they do on. PRAYER 5 MINUTES Lead the students in prayer so that they can: Seek the revelation of the father’s heart. Feel loved as children of God. Act is accordance with the will of God (which is good, pleasing and perfect). Note: If necessary, take some extra time to pray for your students and minister to them. Be careful not to run over the allocated time of each class. WEEK 9 ACTIVITY 1 10 MINUTES Divide the students into groups of four. Divide the colored sheets, scissors, markers and glue sticks between the groups. Ask the students to use the materials to create a “scanner” that can analyze the thoughts, attitude and actions of the children of God. The scanner should have three “gauges”: one should measure how good a thought, attitude or action of a child of God is; another should measure how pleasing these things are; and the last should indicate if these are perfect in the sight of God or not. If any of these things (thoughts, attitude or actions) are not good, pleasing and perfect they do not come from God. 18 | L i f e C l a s s A NEW BEGINNING ESTIMATED TIME 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES RESOURCES A large towel Candy for prizes A large bowl (full of water) iPad/computer and projector Name badges (see extra material) Blank pieces of paper (one per student) Slides and video testimony (see extra material) NOTE: Depending on culture and background, it is possible that some of the students will already have been baptized as babies. You will need to be able to explain the difference between child baptism and being baptized as part of a decision to follow Jesus. Be prepared to answer any questions or concerns the student might have. determined by the person we follow: Jesus. Explain that our attitude toward Jesus should be the same as that in the game: We should do everything He does. CONNECT CONCEIVE 20 MINUTES 30 MINUTES AIMS To want to be like Christ in every step we take. To want to get baptized OBJECTIVES To understand that it is our responsibility as Christians to be like Christ in EVERYTHING. To understand that the leader of a group marks the nature of that group in our case Jesus. WELCOME 10 MINUTES Allow the students to come in and sit down. Revise the most relevant points from last week’s class (Nothing Less Than God’s Best). Ask the students how they got on during the week you could review the various activities you set them last week or you could simply give them the opportunity to share their thoughts. ACTIVITY 1 10 MINUTES Divide the students into three groups and ask them to select a captain for their team (it is important that the other groups do not know who has been chosen). Each team needs to copy EVERYTHING their captain does, as well as figuring out who the captains of the other two teams are. Each team will take turns to go to the front of the room for a minute and a half, get into a circle and start to imitate their captain in everything they do. The captain should move, jump, dance, etc. He/she cannot stand still and cannot do the same thing for more than 30 seconds. The other two teams will have the opportunity to say who they think the captain is once the time limit has been reached. If a team gets it right they win a point. If neither team gets it right, the team at the front wins two points. The group with the most points at the end of the activity will be the winning team and will receive sweets as prizes. Explain that the identity of the group is determined by the leader they follow. Explain that our identity as a church is 19 | L i f e C l a s s AIMS OBJECTIVES To clearly understand what baptism is. To understand that every believer should be baptized, without exception. To identify the spiritual implications of baptism. ACTIVITY 1 7 MINUTES This week’s testimony: “A new Beginning” ACTIVITY 2 20 MINUTES Note: Prepare in prayer: ask the Lord to anoint the lesson and enable you to share the message in a real and relevant way. Use our suggested points and add your own personal testimonies. Remember not to spend more than 20 minutes speaking. Say a short prayer to begin. Use the following outline and the student book to explain this week’s message. INTRODUCTION A New Beginning TOPIC CONTENT WHAT IS BAPTISM The word baptism means “immersion,” implies “being completely submerged.” Immersion happens when an object is completely submerge in water (like a submarine) or when Water is poured onto an object (e.g. under a waterfall). In both cases, immersion is COMPLETE. There is no part of the object that avoids contact with the water. JESUS WAS BAPTIZED Although John baptized with water for repentance. Jesus had nothing of which to repent. He was baptized “to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15). Baptism is a transition between two conditions, it clearly marks a before and after. In Jesus case it marked the transition between His life as a carpenter and the beginning of His ministry. OBJECTIVES To identify what negative things we want to leave behind. To see a visual representation of what happens spiritually when we are baptized. ACTIVITY 1 EXTREME CHANGE 15 MINUTES WHO SHOULD GET BAPTIZED? Jesus taught that ALL of His disciples should be baptized (Matthew 28:19). Whoever wants to be a disciple of Jesus should be baptized If the Lord Jesus Himself, who never committed any sin, met the requirements of being baptized, how much more must we? THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF BAPTISM Project the Extreme Change logo onto the screen. Project the three before-and-after images onto the screen (see extra material). Give each of the students a blank piece of paper. Ask the student to fold their paper in half. Ask them to put the title Before on one half, and After on the other. Read Romans 6:3-6. Baptism is a public act by which we identify ourselves with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection. Death: Going down into the waters symbolizes that we are dying to our old self, which was part of our nature the part of us that was rebellious and could not be renewed. We are accepting that Jesus carried all our rebellion and our worries on the cross and that we are now willing to live a life that pleases and honors Him. Burial: We cannot start again if we continue to carry our old habits, hang-ups and hurts. Our past remains symbolically buried in the water all our old habits and everything that was part of our old nature. Resurrection: When we come up out of the water we are new creations who have been born into a new life: A life free from the slavery of sin (Romans 6:6). This new life no longer belongs to us it belongs to God (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). The substance of faith: Whoever is baptized must believe with their heart that by taking this step of faith they are dying to their old way of living and being born into a new life. If not they will simply go down into the water a dry sinner and come up a wet sinner! CREATE 25 MINUTES On the half labeled Before, the students should draw a self-portrait and write down all the negative traits they would like to leave behind. On the half labeled After, they should draw another picture of themselves. This time, they should write the antonyms of the words they wrote on the first half, along with any other positive traits they would like to have. Cover your desk with the towel and place the large bowl of water on top. Do this while the students are finishing their drawings. Ask the students to tear off the Before half of their sheets. Ask them to immerse their Before pictures in the bowl of water on your desk and to leave them there. Once they have done this, give out the name badges (see extra material). Explain that all the negative things we were have been put to death and buried in the water and the After part that remains is the nature of the resurrection that God gives us after baptism. Ask the students to write on the name badges the positive characteristics for which they would like to be know from now on. WEEKLY CHALLENGE AND GRADUATION FROM LIFECLASS 5 MINUTES AIMS To understand the purpose of baptism. 20 | L i f e C l a s s Remind the students to go over today’s lesson. Set them the challenge of reading their student book every day and completing the exercises. Encourage them to think about each of their LifeClass lessons so that they can continue to apply them daily. Motivate them to continue with the Bible reading plan included in the LifeClass pack (see online resources). If there is a special celebration organized for the following week, be sure to give them the details and encourage them to be there. If not, this is your opportunity to give them their LifeClass certificates. Encourage them to sign up for Destiny Training classes so that they can-continue in their development as leaders. PRAYER 5 MINUTES Lead the students in prayer so that they can: Understand the meaning of baptism. Take the step of faith to get baptized. Say a few words to close and highlights why you have found it a privilege to be their teacher during the past few weeks as they have taken their first steps in the Christian life. Encourage the students to continue reading the Bible and give them a copy of the LifeClass Bible reading plan (available in extra material). The plan follows a similar pattern to the Study the Word sections and will help the students read the Bible in its entirety. to strengthen the new believer in their faith, centered around an experience that every Christian should have an Encounter with Jesus. LifeClass Is a 9-weeks program, designed Have a new beginning in every area of their lives. Note: If necessary, take some extra time to pray for your students and minister to them. Be careful not to run over the allocated time of each class. 21 | L i f e C l a s s
