A guide to Using iDEA for Duke of Edinburgh
Filling out Your Programme Planner (Skills Section)
• Type: Life Skills
• Detail: iDEA or Skills for Employment
• Goals (Bronze): E.g. To gain basic skills and knowledge in a
wide range of digital, enterprise and employability skills
• Goals (Silver): E.g. To further develop my skills and knowledge
in a wide range of digital, enterprise and employability skills
Completing your Activity Log (Skills Section)
• Record whatever you work on each week
• Remember to include how many points you earned for each
badge and the time you took for each badge.
• For the Skills section of your DofE, you should be spending
about an hour a week on this activity.
Recording your evidence (Skills section)
• Take screenshots either during, or as you complete each badge
• Upload your screenshots to eDofE as you progress, as proof
that you are completing the section over the agreed time scale
• Upload your record of achievement and electronic certificate
once it has been awarded
Assessing iDEA for Duke of Edinburgh (Skills section)
• Has the participant shown you evidence of working on the
section for at least one hour per week over the timescale
agreed in the programme planner?
• Has the participant achieved their goals?
• Has the participant uploaded their evidence to eDofE?
• Log in to https://www.dofe.org/assessor/ with your
participants DofE number and fill in your report
Using iDEA for Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering Section

If you are in a position of responsibility, e.g. a CFAV or cadet
NCO or Staff Cadet, you could take on the leadership of the
iDEA Award at your detachment.
This could include encouraging cadets to register for the
Award, and then supporting them to complete it.
This can count for the Volunteering section of your own DofE
Award.

Type: Coaching, teaching and leadership
Detail: Enabling cadets to complete the iDEA Award
Goals: e.g. To support cadets to register for the Award and
complete various badges. To promote the iDEA Award at my
detachment, and make sure cadet understand its value.

• Record whatever you do each week
• Remember to include time you’ve spent supporting the cadets
either face to face or via online support sessions, as well as any
time you’ve spent preparing resources behind the scenes.
• For the Volunteering section of your DofE, you should be
spending about an hour a week on this activity.

to ensure you have permission to take photos that include
cadets)
• Upload your screenshots and photos to eDofE as you progress,
as proof that you are completing the section over the agreed
