Remake the PDMS and investigate properties of microneedle *****
I.
Purpose
Remake again the PDMS and the PMMA mold (with 5x5cm area) and
investigate and know about how the properties of microneedle affect the
contact area in particular and the performance in general.
II.
Experimental Motivation
As we discussed in last time, I want to remake again the PDMS with
5x5cm with different number of microneedle rows at the same baking time.
Also I will see the microstructure of the microneedle on microscope to know
the different properties of different number of microneedle on 5x5cm area.

Experimental Equipment
Furnace
Vacuum annealing furnace treatment machine
CO2 cutting laser
Ultrasonic cleaner.
Microscope.
Experimental Steps
1. Draw the pattern of PMMA on CorelDraw.
2. Cut the PMMA mold using CO2 laser (Power: 63%, Speed:9%, PPI:75
with 50 rows, 100 rows and 150 rows) and clean it using water and
ultrasonic cleaner.
3. Attach the tape to the outside of the PMMA so that the PDMS will have a
certain height.
4. Mix the solution A and B(10:1), weigh it and pour the mix solution to
make PDMS.
5. Pour the mix solution at the upper of PMMA.
6. Put the PDMS in the vacuum machine and wait for the bubbles to blew up
from the pattern.
7. Bake the PDMS using furnace and set the temperature at around 8085oC. Wait for 1-1.5 hour.
8. After baked finished, peel the PDMS from PMMA to testing it.

Discussion
This week’s experience is making PDMS with parameter P:63%, S:9%,
PPI:75 with a size of PDMS is 5cm x 5cm. With increasing the microneedle
rows, the microneedle length and the distance of each microneedle is
decreased and the contact area of PDMS is increased. But microneedle
height is too low this lead to the TENG’s performance is not good.
The last time I fabricate a PDMS with 7x7cm because the width of
conductive cloth we bought is 7cm so that we need to fabricate a square
7x7cm PMMA mold.

1. Future Plan
I will test with PDMS (50, 100, 150 rows) on performance and comparison
between them in this week.
