FORCED PERSPECTIVE Forced Perspective Photography What it is, examples, and how you can do it! WHAT IS FORCED PERSPECTIVE? • Something that is 'forced' sounds scary and ominous, but I promise that this is a bit of fun and outside the box thinking! • Forced perspective is a technique that creates an optical illusion to make an object appear farther away, closer, larger or smaller than it actually is. • It is used primarily in photography, filmmaking and architecture. WHERE WOULD I HAVE SEEN THIS? The most viewed forced perspective photographs would include famous monuments, e.g. the Eiffel Tower or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. FORCED PERSPECTIVE WITH BUILDINGS FORCED PERSPECTIVE WITH OBJECTS FORCED PERSPECTIVE WITH OTHER PEOPLE HOW DO THEY DO IT?! All they are doing is changing a viewpoint (a perspective!) The example on the right shows people lying on the ground, but when they turn it, it makes them look as if they are on something up high and one person could fall... It's all an ILLUSION! _________ Other examples show one person standing really close to the camera, while others are far away (making them look as if they are much smaller). NOW IT'S YOUR TURN! • Using your phone (or camera) create the most imaginative forced perspective photo that you can! • There are no limitations - use objects if you want, rope in other people/family members to help you, just use your imagination! • And try to get a decent photo – not blurry! • Deadline: • All final photos are to be submitted on Friday (following the school timetable of classes) • We will create a 'newsletter' of all the photos to share with each year group. • Good luck!
