New Levels of OS Security – Secure Boot and Trusted Installs
AIX Secure Boot and Trusted Install / Update Operations allow to verify that the AIX OS Images
were provided from IBM and have not been tampered with!
Secure Boot (TL3 and above; POWER9 only)
— AIX secure boot extends IBM PowerVM firmware secure boot to AIX VMs!
Ø The partition firmware validates the digital signature of AIX when booting up the OS
Ø Applies for kernel extensions, device drivers, shared libraries, executable binaries, and scripts
Trusted Installs and Update Operations (all supported Power Systems HW)
— TL3: Enablement - New support for signature-based checks during installation / update operations
Ø TL3 and packages contained are not yet shipping with signatures!
— TL4: Leveraging the enablement done in TL3 & shipped first official packages that had signatures
Ø Beginning with this TL, everything is signed and loaded into the system automatically (everything build with AIX)
Ø When applying these, they are validated with AIX trusted installation and update policies
— Next: Enable customized packages to allow other teams, partners and clients to add their own signatures
(Signature DB support)
Ø Packages that are created, delivered and shipped by other offerings like PowerVC, PowerHA, and PowerSC, or Db2
Ø Extension of ‘create package sign’ with APIs to pass product data to it!
è Everything installable on AIX could have signature from then on!

The World after Corona – Retrospect: Our World in Fall 2020
B
‘Futu uild

‘RE-gnosis: Coping with the Present through a Leap into the Future’
An Article I liked a lot: It makes the reader put him- / herself in a different perspective:
Not talking projections but imagining Corona is over and we are looking back, like in September 2020,
which has quite an effect on how we look at it
Ø
Looking back, you see yourself and the humans as part of the whole story and as a dynamic part:
just projecting what´s going to happen is very often focused on the negative aspects and
taking the human as a static component!
Ø
So this article talks about
-
people that started to be more kind to each other,
who spent time jointly e.g. on long walks,
taking care of each other
-
about politeness,
humor,
courtesy, and humanity
è So looking at it in a retrosperspective – ‘A Backwards Corona Forecast’, helps us to develop a future-mind,
a bridge between today and the future and thus a positive perspective!
Virus as emissary from the future!?
I think it´s key to understand, that yes, it is a terrible virus, it is a very bad situation,
but at the same time it could be a recommencement, it could be an acceleration factor
for evolution & transformation, and it could help us focus more on what's important in. life,
and disrupt the ‘always-on’ & ‘faster and faster’ trend!

AIX Role Based Access Control Workshop
Overview
If an external attacker or an internal malicious insider has gained access to one of your
AIX hosts, one of the typical goals of the attacker is to gain as much administrative
access as possible. An attacker that has sufficient administrative access to even a
single system can use that initial compromised host to attack the remainder of your
network. One of the keys to limiting an attackers ability in this scenario is to limit his
administrative access. AIX’s Enhanced Role Based Access Control (RBAC) is native to
AIX and provides access control options not possible with third-party security tools.
Enhanced RBAC can be one of the most important security solutions for reducing the
security risk of your environment.
