IBRAHIM HUSSAINI JAMO 1062227 INTRODUCTION TO HAPPINESS AND POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY INTRODUCTION: • Optimism is a state of mind that expresses a belief or hope that the outcome of a single attempt, or the outcome of all endeavors, will be positive, beneficial, and desirable. • It's also a state of mind marked by hope and belief in one's own ability to succeed and have a bright future. • Optimists believe that good things will happen, whilst pessimists believe that bad things will happen. • Optimism a disposition or tendency to see the bright side of events or circumstances and to anticipate the best possible conclusion. • The conviction that in the end, good will triumph over evil in the world the conviction that benevolence pervades all of reality. • The belief that the world we live in now is the best of all potential universes. PERMA Model POSITIVE EMOTION: Positive emotion is all about feeling good, and it's the quickest way to happiness. When you're in a good mood, you're in a good frame of mind. ENGAGEMENT: The five basic elements of happiness and well-being are represented by the PERMA Model. (PERMA) is an acronym that stands for Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishments. Something that can engross or absorb a person is referred to as engagement. RELATIONSHIPS: The state of being connected, or the way two or more persons or things are connected. MEANING: The significance that people find in their life is what motivates them to live. ACCOMPLISHMENTS: It is anything that has been achieved with success. OPTIMISM INTERVENTION • My aim with project is to improve optimism in workplace. Approaching everyday life with optimism gives you a framework for reshaping your experiences through a positive perspective. How I am going to achieve optimism in workplace is by: • Keeping my employers informed. • Normalizing work flexibility. • Trusting my employers. DETAILS: • Keeping my employers informed: When giving an employee feedback, communicate routinely about how the dialogue will go and how it will connect to other processes at your company, such as compensation adjustments. • Normalizing work flexibility: It's critical to allow employees autonomy and control over their own workflow. Employees should be evaluated based on their performance rather than the number of hours they spend in the office. • Trusting my employers: Allow employees to make judgments and explain why big (or even minor) decisions were made by giving them the authority to do so. When employees are involved in decision-making, they are more likely to feel valued, trusted, and inspired to participate more. BENEFITS OF WORKPLACE OPTIMISM • Workplace optimism builds stronger bonds in the context of a healthy work environment that is well-liked by both employees and management. Hard work, according to popular belief, leads to great opportunities for the employee, the team, and even the company and its customers. Employees believe they are making a difference and that their work is significant. Benefits of workplace optimism are: • More creativity • Better teamwork • Increased productivity • Better customer service • Potentially increased profits CHARACTER STRENGTHS • The character strength used in this project are justice and humanity. • Justice: is the principle that people get what they deserve, with the interpretation of what constitutes "deserving" influenced by a variety of fields and opinions, including the principles of moral correctness based on ethics, reason, law, religion, equity, and fairness, among others. • Humanity: is a virtue derived from the human condition that is tied to basic ethics of charity. It also represents human compassion and affection for one another. Humanity differs from justice in that there is a higher level of charity toward persons who are part of humanity than there is in justice. • The PERMA model used in this project is positive emotions. CONCLUSION: While it is necessary for employees to bring a positive attitude to work, it is also critical for employers to provide an environment that allows them to enjoy their optimism. Organizations can take a variety of steps to protect employees from poor morale and burnout while simultaneously fostering an environment that encourages them to succeed. With this approach, I believe if this steps are taken it will bring optimism to the workplace.
