Job Summary:
The position reports to the Senior Vice President, Business Optimization and Redesign, with the strategic objective to
significantly transform the cost structure of Kaiser Permanente in 5 years while enhancing the quality and experience of
care. The rapid improvement to the cost structure is a strategic imperative to enable the delivery of our mission,
including absolute affordability to our members and fueling growth. This role serves a key leadership role in support of
the enterprise approach to realize value from major strategic programs by bringing specialized skills and structure to
rapidly complete assessment, design, implementation, and benefits realization. Through standard operating model

deployment and enhanced business platforms, this role brings execution capability to deliver significant contributions to
the bottom line. The position engages with CEOx, NETx and the regional president’s group (RPG) in the identification,
prioritization, and rapid implementation of a wide range of strategic initiatives in alignment with KP’s 5-year strategic
plan. This role will partner and collaborate with Health Plan, Hospital, Medical Groups, and key national strategic
partners to facilitate the execution capability for strategic initiatives that contribute significantly to cost/benefit
realization.
Essential Responsibilities:
Working through influence and in collaboration with CEOx, NETx, RPG, Medical Groups, employees, and staff,
identifies and coordinates the prioritization of enterprise initiatives to drive strategic redesign outcomes.
Facilitates the redesign of pertinent business functions to maximize economies of scale and common processes,
resulting in improved experiences and outcomes while reducing operating cost burdens.
Manages, partners with senior executives, and tracks all major enterprise strategic cost structure initiatives, creating
an accelerated execution approach across the enterprise.
Aligns key stakeholders and gains cross-entity and cross-market and functions support through influence for the
overall redesign of the business, challenging leaders to achieve maximum benefits.
Identifies opportunities to leverage the scale of assigned functions or markets, to minimize redundancy, utilize
process redesign, optimize automation/technology, while reinforcing continuous improvement methodologies.
Influences strategic executives across the assigned functions or markets to engage in the associated cost structure
improvements.
Develops working relationships and strategic partnerships with enterprise leaders to negotiate and collaborate on
initiatives that will create the most effective outcomes.
Partners with financial planning to ensure benefits/value realization for each enterprise and regional strategic
initiative(s).
Identifies, defines, and leads implementation and spread best practices (including change management) across
selected KP markets or national functions to standardize processes, business programs and governance
Navigates complex organizations with multiple entities and layers of oversight, working through collaboration and
operational integration to help realize substantial cost structure improvements.
Assesses resourcing needs and manages resources and the development of team structures to optimize business
execution.
Drives end to end outcomes while balancing overall impact with other related business needs.
Actively partners with National Partners (IT, HR, Finance, Communications, Labor, Digital, etc.) to balance
organization changes with regulatory and system requirements.
Ensures roadmaps and action plans are developed and executed.
Identifies, recruits, and develops talent on behalf of KP, including active support for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Plans for succession and executes as needed.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Minimum eight years (8) of management experience required.

Additional Requirements:
Experience in working effectively with labor to successfully support the KP Labor-Management
Partnership, and the needs of our workforce.
Demonstrated ability to build strong teams focused on execution, both within the executives- s direct
reporting structure, as well as across the enterprise to deliver large, complex projects.
Demonstrated ability to think creatively and see beyond what exists in the current environment, and
ability to translate new ideas, concepts, and vision into the KP enterprise.
Excellent interpersonal skills (negotiation, listening and communication skills) characterized by effective
interactions with a diverse range of internal and external constituents, stakeholders, and audiences.
Demonstrated experience developing dynamic, constructive working relationships and partnerships with
operational and physician partners.
Six years or more progressive experience in all aspects of large-scale business transformation or large
program implementation, including change management, project/program management, strategy
development and process improvement,
Demonstrated expertise managing portfolios of complex and large-scale programs/projects.
Outstanding program management skills to lead prioritization and execution of strategic project initiatives
and realizing true business benefit through program/project execution.
Proven track record of transforming key business functions/operations in a highly matrixed large
enterprise environment.
Political savvy and the ability to influence and facilitate decision making across a diverse group of market
and functional leaders is critical.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts
clearly and concisely.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in the managed care industry and/or integrated delivery systems is preferred.
Decisiveness, action-orientation, personal integrity, capability to persevere in difficult situations, and a
focus on strategic leadership issues highly desired.
LEAN, Six Sigma certification preferred.
Bachelor-s Degree in related field with a master-s degree strongly preferred.
