Name: jasmine beckles Lab# :9 Page#:______ Date : 19th \Feb\2021 Skill : Title:cells Aim:to observe the diffusion rephrase Apparatus: Funnel Petri dish Pencil & Paper Compass Forceps Stop clock Potassium permanganate Fine sand Distilled water Procedure: 1) Using a compass, draw 4 circles on a sheet of paper with the same center with increasing diameter starting with 1cm and ending with 4cm. 2) Place the paper on the table and then place petri dish directly over the circles on the page 3) Place funnel at the center of the petri dish, making sure it line up whit the circles on the sheet of paper 4) Using fine sand to make a small mound of dirt around the funnel 5) Using forceps, place the potassium permanganate into the funnel 6) Fill the petri dish whit distilled water and carefully remove the funnel 7) Start stop clock and record time taken for the potassium permanganate to reach the parameter of circle. Results :: table showing time taken for potassium permanganate to reach each circle Circle Distance (cm) Time 1st 1 cm 6 sec 2nd 2 cm 1 min and 23sec 3rd 3cm 3 min and 27 sec 4th 4cm 5 min and 22 sec Speed = distance divided by time 0.01 /6=0.16 0.02/83=0.24 0.03/207=0.144 0.04/322=0.124 Discussion : Diffusion is the movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration until evenly distributed. The process of diffusion is a passive transport system. This helps living organisms /cell to gain the useful substances they require to obtain energy and grow and rid themselves of waste. Completing this experiment did indeed satisfy my expectation. Reflection:We were able to see a visual representation of the diffusion process. Limitations :surface Precaution:1) area to volume ratio It was ensured that the table was not moved during the experiment 2) Small amounts of crystal potassium permanganate was used to avoid it from diffusing at a rapid rate Sources of Error: Conclusion : a visual representation of the diffusion process was achieved
