The LORD Ministers to a Depressed Servant Elijah falls into a season of depression that is recorded for us in 1 Kings 19. DEPRESSION: a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. Elijah’s physical state: Ran for his life (31 miles) verse 3 Continued a day’s journey further in the wilderness Elijah’s mental state: Verse 4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, "It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers." Physically – There are things such as chemical imbalances, barometric pressure, diseases, hunger, thirst, poor nutrition, exhaustion, and sleep deprivation that can contribute to feelings of depression. Mentally – The thoughts of being helpless, hopeless, having fear, self – pity , and desiring to withdraw from other people are symptoms of depression. There is a low interest in activities most of the day, every day. The LORD ministers: Spiritually The LORD minister: Socially The LORD ministers: The LORD ministers:
