First case: Refocusing on the poorest 20% of Benin.
Summary
Although Benin is a small country but it has huge debt and higher rate of poverty among the
world. Benin’s 57% of population is living in rural areas and are young (under the age of 18).
Being a small nation with limited financial recourses and other challenges Benin is facing; the
country was lucky to have a stable political system as compare to other countries. The
democratic period was peaceful and political processes were inclusive and transparent due to this
the firms were basis for innovative policy this would help to increase the challenge of leaving no
one behind. However Benin’s economy (growth in GDP ) and policies were not in the favors of
poor people (poorest 20% of Benin’s population) so to cope up with these problems Benin’s
government implemented “P20” approach to reduce poverty rate and vulnerability for poorest
20% (leaving no one behind). Benin’s government also implemented action program for social
protection 2016-2021, this consists of 4 priorities in order to increase proportion of people
covered by social protection serves to more than 1/3rd. These strategies were beneficial for
removal of financial restriction for different district means people from any district can have the
access to public basic services. There are major improvements in Benin’s development but still
there is a lot more to be done.
