1. Severian at Necropolis
Severian, Roche, Drotte and Eata are at the
gates trying to get in. They manage, but get
split up. Severian spies three volunteers, and
then saves Vodalus's life. Vodalus gives him a
coin. Intro to film.
Plot A
2. TITLES: Montage of Citadel
We move through the Nessus, the Citadel. We
see Matachin Tower, the witches, Bear Keep,
the Pinakotheken. Narration. End up back on
Severian and his friends just before the
opening incident, approaching the banks of the
Gyoll.

3. Severian Drowns
The apprentices push through the bustle of the
peasants below the Iron Gate, along the banks
of Gyoll. They go for a swim, and Severian
ends up entangled in sea weeds. He begins to
drown, and ends in a dream state. He imagines
Master Malrubius, and then a face in the water
talks to him, and he is thrown from the water.
A man on shore asks if he saw a woman
underwater.

4. Palaemon Teaches the Apprentices
Master Palaemon leads the apprentices into the
lower keep, where a client awaits. He
demonstrates an excruciating, showing how to
remove everything between the knee and the
ankle without damaging any of the veins or
arteries.

5. Severian in his Mausoleum
Severian sneaks into the necropolis, finds his
secret hiding spot. He is determined to hide
the coin Vodalus gave him. In the mausoleum we
see a symbol on the wall of a ship rowing over
a fountain and a rose. We see the coin, it has
the same ship on one side, and what appears to
be the face of Vodalus on the other.

6. From Birth to Elevation
Severian daydreams in his bed, recounting the
journey from being newborn until becoming an
adult. It turns to winter in this span.

7. Roche and Severian Talk
Roche informs Severian that the campaigning in
the north is over, and soldiers returning to
Nessus, new clients, Autarch returns. Severian
asks if Autarch will come to the Citadel.
Roche informs he will stay at House Absolute,
unless he chooses to take a flier into the
Citadel. Rumors of Vodalus and the volunteers
coming to Matachin.

8. Severian Investigates
Still infatuated with Vodalus, Severian is
scrubbing the floors in Master Gurloes study
when he happens upon the admission papers. He
realizes that none of these new clients are
associated whatsoever with anyone named
Vodalus. Severian realizes at this moment that
he is crazy. Wonders if Vodalus is real at all.

9. Returns to Mausoleum
Panicked about Vodalus existing, Severian
races back to his mausoleum. He finds his coin
and realizes with a start... the face on the
coin is not Vodalus after all.

10. Finding Triskele
Severian is cleaning beneath Bear Tower, when
he sees a dog lying in the pile of dead
discarded animals. While the dog still has
life, it is unclear whether indeed the dog was
formerly dead.

11. Caring for Triskele
Severian sneaks Triskele back into the tower
and cares for him. He nurses Triskele back to
relative health over a few visits.

12. Dreaming of Triskele
In a dream one night, Severian sees the
Triskele. The dog talks to him, though we
don't know what he says.

13. Losing Triskele
Next morning, Severian returns to the
examination room to find Triskele gone. He
follows muddy tracks into the tunnels below
the citadel. Inside the tunnels he becomes
lost, until he eventually finds a slash of
sunlight from above. He makes his escape.

14. The Atrium of Time
Above ground, he is walled in by high stone,
amidst a strange courtyard. Sun dials and
large stone statues of four different beast. A
young woman appears, Valeria, and they talk.
She invites him into her keep, and we learn
she is the last of a reasonably wealthy
lineage. Indications of possible romance.

15. Triskele Reappearing
Severian is delivering a letter to the
barbican when Triskele comes bounding up to
him on three legs. They reunite for a while
before Triskele is on his way.

16. Feast of Holy Katherine I
Severian watches Roche and Drotte elevated,
and realizes with fear that he must now be the
master of apprentices. He has an idea to gain
their respect, and ushers the apprentices back
to their quarters and bars the door. He chokes
Eata and asks if he will be his number two.
Eata agrees, and together they beat the rest
of the apprentices into submission.

17. The Picture Cleaner
Severian is delivering a message to Master
Ultan at the Pinakotheken. He sees dirty
paintings for miles and miles down a long
corridor, then notices a picture cleaner on a
ladder. Two armigers appear and give Severian
directions. The picture cleaner talks to
Severian, then gives him better directions.
