RefWorks Citation Manager • RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) lets you add in-text and footnote citations to your documents. Your biography is auto-generated as you write or added at any time. • RCM is available on Word 365 (provided by the university) and Word 2016 for both Macs and PCs. For earlier versions of Word, use Write N Cite: for details email discover@kingston.ac.uk • No download is required. Simply sign in via the Office Store In the Word menu bar: click Insert > Get Add-ins On your own device: in the Office Add-ins pop-up: • Search for RefWorks to find RefWorks Citation Manager • Click Add and Continue On a university PC, Mac or Laptop: in the Office Add-ins pop-up: • Select Admin Managed • Choose RefWorks Citation Manager To open RefWorks citation Manager: • Select the RCM tab which has been added to Word • Click on the RefWorks Citation Manager button and a pop-up will appear in a box on the right of the screen Sign in to RefWorks Citation Manager with: • your Kingston email address • your RefWorks password Select the Menu bar to: • Choose your Citation style • Turn Bibliography ON or OFF • Refresh Document and References to reflect updates to your RefWorks account The References Homepage displays all references by default. Use the drop-down menu the choose a folder or last imported references Search for a reference by keyword in the author name, article title etc. References are sorted by date added. Use the drop-down menu to rank by date accessed, by date published etc. To add a citation: • In your Word document, place the cursor where you would like to add the citation • highlight a reference in RefWorks Citation Manager • Click Cite this • A citation will be added to your document • A reference will be added at the end of your work if Bibliography is turned ON Select Edit this to: • Remove the author name(s) if mentioned in the text. • Add page numbers as a suffix e.g. * , p. 481 • Your updated citation will be shown at the top of the box * • Click Insert Citation to add it to your Word document To cite multiple sources in a single citation: • Tick the relevant citations • Click Insert Citation at the top of the RefWorks Citation Manager box Correcting errors in citations and references: If there are errors in a reference it’s better to edit the reference in RefWorks not your Word document. Then, in RefWorks Citation Manager, click Menu bar > Refresh document and references.
