English IV Group Research Assignment #1 Points - 50 Step 1: We are going to do research projects to help us settle into the world of the Anglo-Saxons so as to improve our understanding and enjoyment of Beowulf! For this project, we will essentially be looking at aspects of the history of England for relevant time periods. The groups are already assigned in sets of four students. The topics are assigned as well. The assignments are as follows: 1) Group 1 = Caroline, Jose, Nathan, Emily Topic – Celtic day-to-day life, Celtic women (Here, Celtic refers to the people of England prior to 60ish A.D. That is the time before the arrival of the Romans. These people were known as the Celtic Britons. These people persisted into the middle ages, but we are interested in their lives prior to the Anglo-Saxon invasion.) 2) Group 2 = Dewey, Riley, Otelia, Shaina Topic – Celtic Religion, Romans in Britain (Again, by Celtic religion we mean that religion of Celtic Britons as it existed prior to the Anglo-Saxon invasion. Spoiler – this has to do with Druids.) 3) Group 3 = Jerome, McKenzie, Tyler, Kaytlyn Topic – Anglo-Saxon invasion, Alfred the Great 4) Group 4 = Brandon, Angela, Jordan, Logan Topic – Women in Anglo-Saxon culture, Christian monasteries in Anglo-Saxon England Step 2: Begin your research. Work together with your group members to agree upon the important information that you should include. Evaluate your sources carefully. Your sources do not need to be academic, but they should be sound. That means make sure their information is correct. Each group will make a works cited page including the sources that they used. Step 3: Create your visual aide. For your presentation, you must create a visual aide (I recommend PowerPoint or Google Slides. However, a more artistic approach in the form of a poster or sculpture is totally acceptable if that plays to your strengths. All groups are responsible for a thorough report of information based on your topic). It should include something like the following: 1. Bullet point information (do NOT put long descriptions – you will verbally share the information on your visual) 2. Appropriate images that add to your information 3. A properlyâformatted MLA style Works Cited page at the end.
