For Teachers with 11 – 15 years Teaching Experience 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Are you satisfied with your job as a professional teacher for the past years? Why? Yes. My work has given me more opportunities to share my expertise to my learners and also the chance to make a difference in my own little way. What are some of your most unforgettable experiences as a teacher? I can think of two. One is when some of my former students would come and surprise me in some occasions that are special to me or also to them-just to reminisce good memories. And second when I met my student 5 years ago and she treated me in a place where I truly enjoyed—with all the luxury. It is good to experience that some learners remember their teachers. What inspires you as a teacher? Personally, the love of my students. Their love has inspired me to be more passionate. What are your greatest challenges as a teacher? So far, the greatest challenge is to transform the most difficult students in the class. What are you plans for the future? To retire as a happy and fulfilled teacher. Do you help the younger teachers in your school? How? Oh yes. I believe I am a good mentor and a coach. I always remember that I was once a young teacher who badly needed help and I learned from the wisdom of my former mentors. I help them (new teachers) by good counsel. My style is not to dogmatize. My style is asking new teachers why they do what they do. Then I challenge them to challenge their own way of thinking so they can think of doing something new. How would you compare yourself with the younger teachers? I think there is uniqueness. And I love and appreciate the beauty of being unique. Each in his/her own person. The young have so much to learn and the old have so much to teach. But each still learns from each other. One that’s complementary. What awards or citations have you received as a professional teacher? -I received an award for Innovation Do you think you will be promoted to higher positions soon? That is beyond my control. Promotion will always be there. I believe that if it’s meant for you, it will just come. If it comes, then it’s meant to be. 9. 10. Do you think you will retire as a professional teacher? I always am proud as a teacher. I will retire as one. What should professional teachers remember always in terms of their behavior? They should always welcome all opportunities to learn—that means they need that virtue of humility for them to grow and develop. Learning does not go with age or ranks. It goes with one’s desire to always receive new ideas with positivity. Second, the will to always strive for excellence: “Hindi pwede and pwede na” (Good enough is not enough). As Aristotle said. 11. Excellence is a habit not an act. We need to always practice, to always learn. And as we learn, we should always do our best like a Disneyworld phenomenon. What kind of teacher would you like students to remember you when you retire? A teacher who taught their minds, who touched their hearts and one who transformed their minds.
