In 2020, most of the people experienced them in reality for the first time. The last severe pandemic of this magnitude in “recent” history was the 1919 Influenza. Online teaching method can be an effective way to avoid session jam and to create a safe space to continue educational activities in this serious pandemic situation. The Corona virus pandemic led the educational institutions to a standstill. Universities have adopted online methods to avoid session jam. Private universities started online courses from the very beginning of the pandemic due to their proper resources. Though public universities were lagging behind, recently they have started to take online classes. But it is a matter of regret that it is not being properly fruitful due to low percentage rate of attendance as some of the students don’t have access to internet, and smart devices to connect to the classes. Even when some of the students are joinning the classes, they are not being able to pay attention to the classes due to bad network connection. Online teaching method can be an effective way to avoid session jam and to create a safe space to continue educational activities in this serious pandemic situation. But proper The Green Volunteers Volume 3 Issue 1 (2020) 13 Asian Network of Youth Volunteers Society ARTICLE plans should be made and specific steps should be taken for ensuring participation of all students in this program and to make it a more fruitful one. Those who don’t have smart devices should be provided with it. Moreover, the academic activities should not be confined only in the classes though video calls, detailed written description of the lectures should be available The Green Volunteers online so that students who would be unable to load video lectures or attend online classes get the necessary lectures easily. In that matter, academic freedom or freedom of expression in these academic activities should be strictly maintained so that learning experience gets a more natural and flawless tone while giving both the teachers and students a sense of safety and fulfillment. Volume 3 Issue 1 (2020) 14 COVID -19 MAY CHANGE THE WORLD’S WORKFORCE ARTICLE AUTOMATION, DIGITALISATION, ROBOTS AND OUR FUTURE!!! NORWAY WASI HAMED RESEARCH ASSISTANT (NTNU), NORWAY In our modern and globalised economy, businesses are under more pressure than ever to differentiate, evolve and adapt to stay relevant. From Finance to Sales and everything in-between, the effort to maximise margins has led many businesses to take an introspective look into how they can eliminate inefficiencies. A common solution has been the adaption of automation technologies, where certain business processes and functions that would otherwise be performed by a human, are now automated. A common application of this has been in the manufacturing industry and has resulted in many products that previously required a significant labor force, to now requiring virtually none at all. The Green Volunteers A common application of this has been in the manufacturing industry and has resulted in many products that previously required a significant labor force, to now requiring virtually none at all. However, the use of automation technology isn’t only restricted to the manufacturing industry. Various technologies have progressed in recent years to the extent that they threaten those in conventional business roles. Many common occupations such as clerks, secretaries and general administrative staff have increasingly Volume 3 Issue 1 (2020) 15 Asian Network of Youth Volunteers Society ARTICLE become redundant with the use of modern technology. From an efficiency standpoint this could be considered a great success - but in the process many people have lost their jobs, raising the difficult question whether artificial intelligence (AI) and robots are more harmful than beneficial at he end of the day. Many people are starting to wonder if they are next in line for replacement by AI or a robot. But don’t worry! not all hope is lost. The good news is that not every business is compatible with automation. Many professions and The Green Volunteers services require empathy, intuition and social interaction to be effective. For example; salespeople, healthcare workers, social workers, police, teachers and artists. But everything here is mentioned the story before COVID -19 pandemic, the story can change after corona period! The high cost of labor in Europe, USA, or Japan has created the necessary of automation or robot. But it is true, still there are some jobs which are not possible to accomplish successfully by robot rather for this we need human brain. So, this is a dilemma for what the developed countries are moving towards Asia or Africa for production purposes. Consequently, the rise of China, India, Vietnam or Ethiopia has been observed as new economic power. These countries have very cheap labor force. Bangladesh is also considered another source in this regard. But because of political problem, corruption and proper planning we are clearly behind them. Despite that; everything was going well! But it is anticipated that these countries and their huge labor force may face a big challenge in coming Volume 3 Issue 1 (2020) 16 Corona virus will make this selfish world more selfish. Countries will try to reduce their dependency on other countries. Specially the sectors of health, the developed countries may again try to self-reliant. As a result, Europe or US owned the medicine and medical equipment companies may shift their production facilities from Asia or Africa to their own countries. Here the challenge is labor cost. The labor cost in Europe or USA is so far higher than that of Asia or Africa. It is not possible for them to carry on their business with this high cost. And, then automation or robot is the best solution. The use of robot or automated technology will be accelerated. Human will lose their job. This can happen in other sectors as well. Because of corona virus, the world’s people are losing trust form each other. Safety and cleanliness will become a big concern. The businesses will try to reduce human touch in their business activities and this decision can help them The Green Volunteers ARTICLE years because of COVID – 19 pandemic. to gain more safety and trust, and thus it can bring more success in their business. For example; in restaurant business the use of robot for food serving and cleaning purpose may increase in high volume comparing before corona situation. This is also alarming for human and millions of people all over the world may lose their jobs! The countries with small population but very rich they will give more focus on technology, digitalization and use of robot everywhere. Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland) or the country like New Zealand who are very famous for refuge support or human rights, may change their policy. Because of safety issue or the effect of corona virus, they may change their policy. Economically the countries have been facing huge difficulties and it will continue next couple of years. The companies of these countries have already started struggling. So, as a survival issue this companies will lay off a good number of employees. Consequently, thousands of immigrant people must be going to lose their jobs. And, there is no hope to get back their jobs in near future. May be the companies may change their policy permanently and they can move on towards automation! So, we don’t know what happens in next years after COVID -19, but it’s true the virus will change the world, and nothing will become like earlier! Before that, maybe the public didn’t have much idea about this. Quarantine can be of different types like when seemingly a healthy person returns home from abroad, he or she is initially kept in a separate home quarantine for 14 days to determine if he or she has the Covid-19 virus. In this situation, public-private institutions, educational institutions, aviation, public transport, shops, shopping malls, travelplaces are banned. You can go out wearing masks and gloves within a certain period of time for daily necessities (food and medicine). The Green Volunteers In the Corona situation, people have been terrified of quarantine for a long time. Sometimes the normal viral fever is assumed to be coronavirus. What are the symptoms of corona (sore throat, dry cough, runny nose, headache, vomiting, loss of smell or taste in food) and what is a common fever? Despite the fact that corona is a physical disorder, it has made a person mentally upset. The stress of living in a monotonous life is constantly increasing. That is why we can use a number of methods to construct quarantine in Corona situation which are given below1. Differences in perspective: Everything has its pros and cons. SHARING COVID-19: EXPERIENCES DURING I am going share about my experience which I accumulated during this pandemic. Let’s start with the positives vibes that is about Family time, freedom and palatable food. The positive thing about being home during Volume 3 Issue 1 (2020) 21 Asian Network of Youth Volunteers Society ARTICLE the coronavirus pandemic is that I get to spend time with my family and share with them what I’m learning. I get to involve my parents in activities that I have only done with my friends. I also get to see what my siblings are learning and help them in their need. I enjoy staying home. I actually have more time on my hands than I know what to do with. I’ve been trying to use that extra time for productive things, like learning how to cook. The best thing about being at home is I get to hang around with my family more and not being able to be around other people helps me to get outside, and do some exercise. Everything has positive and negative consequences. I also found negative ramification on this ground. The technology can be amusement, but it doesn’t always help. I’m doing online learning through Google Classroom, and sometimes it’s difficult. Problems which I want to attach sometimes it won’t attach, the file didn’t save properly. I’m a visual learner, and so I prefer to take a hands-on approach, including marking up and annotating the work before me on actual paper. However, with online learning, it’s difficult, and I find The Green Volunteers myself writing much more than I usually would. risk of social isolation. ARISING SOLUTION: IDEAS ABOUT COVID-19 ‘The project is providing basic AND ITS SOLUTION: In our villages, the elderly usually live on their own, relying on family and friends to bring their shopping home regularly. After these measures, these people may lose access to this social support. Moreover, the current situation puts them at food, hygiene and health supplies. A team of volunteers, who are we all relatives is in charge of doing the home shopping so the elderly and other people at risk don’t have to be exposed to the virus. The activities we done is delivering groceries or meals good nutrition and sufficient calories are important for body and mind, as well as for keeping spirits up. LESSONS LEARNED FROM COVID-19: 1. Hygiene helps: If any old lesson came handy during the COVID-19 crisis it was that hygiene helps. We have all been taught to wash our hands every time we’ve been to a place that could have disease causing germs, when we return home from outside and from time to time for good measure. 2. Our medical capacities are limited but we have huge reserve capacity: Medical capacities, especially in urban areas, have usually been The Green Volunteers taken for granted. Our worry has been the quality of care. But we have learnt now that the richest of nations are limited in their capacity to treat people if there is a large outbreak of a disease. To alleviate the massive pressure on the healthcare industry, governments, including the Bangladesh government, have implemented several measures to enhance capacity – right from equipping tertiary medical care givers to getting healthcare on wheels activated. Bangladesh has a large qualified and capable base of medical professionals who are not allowed into regular practice and it is to our credit that we tapped into that base to tackle the pandemic. The existence of this reserve cohort of qualified medical personnel is a welcome realisation indeed. too much. While physiological and security needs have been paramount, many have found ways to learn new skills or do things they have always wanted to do but couldn’t make time for. Families and friends have engaged over video calls and many have “met” members of their family more often during the lockdown than they otherwise do! Despite the lockdown we have discovered that we can satisfy all needs in Maslow’s hierarchy. Many have learnt what really matters to them. With the isolation being imposed and assuming that that in itself might be a reason behind the deteriorating mental health of a lot of people around the globe, the fresher air and healthier natural habitats outside are unfortunately, not really helping people struggling to cope with anxiety and depression, being locked down in the confines of their homes. And as soon as this ends and the world gets back up on its feet, the economies will rise again and capitalism will climb back at Volume 3 Issue 1 (2020) 46 According to WHO, more than 264 million people suffer from depression. With the increasing number of people having to deal with mental illness due to staying indoors because of the existing COVID-19 crisis, it becomes crucial for us to put light on the prevailing connection between the environment and the state of mind of the people, for optimizing the next big challenges to come. “We know that the finest particulates from dirty air can reach the brain via both the bloodstream and the nose, and that air pollution has been implicated in increased The Green Volunteers [brain] inflammation, damage to nerve cells and to changes in stress hormone production, which have been linked to poor mental health,” a study by Braithwaite said. So basically, controlling human health and building a healthy environment for us to live in, both of these depend on how we regulate our socioeconomic behavior post pandemic. understand the social and economic reasons that keep us emitting greenhouse gases, and likewise with COVID-19. Yes, the direct cause is the virus. But managing its effects requires us to understand human behaviour and its wider socio-economic context. As Sir Newton said, “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”. It’s high time we understand the wider consequences of our social behaviors and think about building a sustainable future, in order to save ourselves from the next possible waves. If we want to be resilient to future pandemics, avoid the worst of climate change and air pollution, we need a system that will bring effective social changes, one which won’t need people to stay back at home for the nature to be at it’s best, but one which will enable people to enjoy it, while ensuring a sound and sustainable future with optimized risks of forthcoming challenges. Like I said in the beginning of this article, Coronavirus, like climate change, is partly a problem of our socio-economic structure. Asian Network of Youth Volunteers Society ARTICLE CAN URBAN FORESTRY BE A MEDIUM FOR REDUCING CLIMATE CHANGE IN CITIES? NEPAL SWOSTHI THAPA NEPAL The world is developing rapidly with new inventions which has increased industrialization and urbanization. The preference of people towards modern services and facilities has created increment in migration from rural areas to urban cities. With the increasing population in cities, the environment is being worse day by day. Tree loss, pollution, unsustainability, overexploitation of resources has caused climate change and affected every region. The forests and green vegetation in rural areas can assist in reducing climate change impacts but it is the time to think about population living in urban areas. Although various governmental bodies as well as I/NGOs are working for creating better environment for example, using bio-degradable products, riding electric vehicles, reducing plastic use and pollution, it is still not enough. It’s time to think about something better, which is, Urban Forestry. But there is still an argument, Can urban forestry help in maintaining good environmental condition along with reducing impacts of climate change? Urban forestry is the care and management of single trees and tree populations in urban settings for the purpose of improving the urban environment. We can find the answer to this question when we get the concept of urban forestry. It is estimated that almost 70% of the world’s population will be living in cities by 2050, mainly in Africa and Asia. This will worsen the environmental impacts without solutions. Considering this estimation, cities and local municipalities are beginning to recognize the important linkages between urban resiliency, human well-being, and climate change mitigation and adaptation activities. Most of the cities in various countries for example, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Beijing, London etc. are adopting this concept of urban forest for sustainability and human well-being. They are doing management of street trees, trees in parks and open spaces, trees on private property, and developing green roofs and walls. Other countries are also making commitments for developing green spaces either along roadside or at rooftops. barriers preventing cities from accomplishing such a task. Upfront costs of training professional staff and establishing a network for monitoring and assessing urban forest health can quickly surpass the capabilities of local governments. Sustainable funding for management assistance and tree care remains a formidable obstacle. Diversifying and securing sustainable funding is needed to increase awareness in area without proactive approaches to urban forest management. Despite the huge benefits, there is challenge in implementation of this concept. Insufficient funding and professional knowledge are probably the largest Although there are some challenges, it is crucial for development of urban forest management plan. The Corona crisis has already put a question mark over UN member states signed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a collection of 17 goals focusing mainly on a better environment and socio-economic future. Being a developing country, Bangladesh is facing more challenges in continuing sustainable development. Corona crisis has brought some alarming and long-lasting effects on the sustainable development race of Bangladesh. First of all, the Corona crisis brought unintended temporary benefits to the environment which satisfies 5 SDGs (Goal 6: Clean water; Goal 7: Affordable & clean energy; Goal 13: Climate Action; Goal 14: Life below water; Goal 15: Life on land). With economic activities and transportation brought to a halt, there has been a substantial impact in reducing emissions of Greenhouse Gases (1). A harsh truth to believe, these temporary benefits will assumably not exist once the lockdown ends. However, Corona crisis has brought a devastating and long-lasting effect on the economy which is related to 6 SDGs (Goal 1: No Poverty; Goal 2: Zero Hunger; Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being; Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth; Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities). Besides, Bangladesh is facing a huge crisis in remittances amid COVID-19; World Bank estimates have projected that total remittances by Bangladeshi migrant workers will fall to US$14 billion for 2020, around a 25% decrease from the previous year (4). These losses imply economic instability which is a big barrier for sustainable development in Bangladesh. Finally, the Corona crisis already made a harmful effect on social stability which is related to 4 SDGs (Goal 4: Quality education; Goal 5: Gender Equality; Goal 10: Reduced Inequality; Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Due to the poverty created by the less work or job opportunities, there is chaos everywhere in society getting terrific day by day. One of the blessings of modern medicine is the discovery of antibiotics. As a result, it is possible to treat many diseases that once killed a large number of people. But now, after taking antibiotics, people are recovering in a few days and are able to walk. So we have endless gratitude to antibiotics. Antibiotic drugs are usually made from fungi or other microorganisms. Usually this drug reduces the proliferation of bacteria, suppressing harmful bacteria. In 1926, the Scottish microbiologist Alexander Fleming invented the first antibiotic, penicillin. Later, various antibiotics were discovered for his benefit, which are widely praised for stopping various epidemics such as cholera. These antibiotics range from one to five classes. Antibiotics usually stops bacterial invasion by destroying the bacterial wall. Before moving on to the main discussion, we need to know what a bacterium is. It is a group of single-celled, microscopic microorganisms without organized nuclei. It has about 15,000 species. Not all bacteria are bad. Rather many bacteria, even most of which live in our gut, are extremely beneficial. However, the harmful side of bacteria is usually more noticeable to us. Now I say, what is antibiotic resistance! The Usage of Social Media in Education has great positive impact on it. Thanks to the use of social media, we have been able to take education to a unique level. Let’s use it to advance the research level. With the help of an example, we can understand very well how the use of social media in the impact in education. Well, today I have tried to improve my career by learning different types of skills by using social media and it has only happened as a result of all these factors of social media. On the one hand, research has indicated that in recent years social media has penetrated almost all types of organizations. Educational institutions have not been left behind too and have been adopters of this global phenomenon. Social media takes many forms such as social networking sites, blogs, blogs, instant messaging and virtual communities. To embark that, the social networking site Facebook appears to clearly emerge as a winner predominantly because of its large number of members. It allows its members to create and share content, build relationships and enable collaboration and connectivity irrespective of geographical location. Besides, the rapid rise of social media provides numerous possibilities for higher education institutions to adopt it to further their learning and teaching endeavors. Worldwide mostly high uptake of social media makes it suitable for administrators, managers, learners and teachers in higher education institutions too. Moreover, the usage of Volume 3 Issue 1 (2020) 57 Asian Network of Youth Volunteers Society ARTICLE social media continues to transform pedagogy and can be used to support learning and teaching activities that were traditionally confined to classrooms. Well, the use of social media in higher education recent, it has many challenges but its importance cannot be ignored. Research has induced that a majority of academics are of the sensation that social media may be employed successfully in supporting the provision of student-centered learning approach. In the meantime, the use of social me¬dia for learning and teaching, it is also being used for creating awareness and advertising. Social media qualifies educational institutions to provide stakeholders with information about new research programs, changes to policies, events, job vacancies, alumni engagement and institutional news. Some colleges and universities also use social media as a tool for recruit¬ing students. Social media gives a perfect platform to highlight new courses, research and teaching staff and campus facilities in an attempt to attract more students. The Green Volunteers However, the use of social media in higher education is not without some implicit restrictions. Its restrictions include technological and privacy concerns, dominance of academics, passive behavior of students and absence of academic language usage. In social media, students no longer continue to remain passive absorbent of knowledge but become coproducers and contributors. education settings too. What needs to be worked out the situation is how higher education institutions globally continue to embrace social media to their own benefit. Finally, in higher education social media marketers have a tough task before them as they try to navigate how to communicate with students during school closures. No one could have predicted that just five months into 2020, this is what our new realities would become. In India many online learning The Green Volunteers platforms are offering free access to their services, including platforms like BYJU’S, a Bangalore-based educational technology. Some research shows that on average learners retain 25-60% more material while learning online compared to only 8-10% in a classroom. This is probably due to the students being able to learn faster online and e-learning requires 40-60% less time to learn than in a traditional classroom setting because students can learn at their own pace and with great comfort. According to my experience in the recent time as a lecturer in a private university of Bangladesh, I had to try several online teaching aids like different apps, software and video editing software. As I have to give lecture to my student on different courses of soil science I have to move with greater student comfort of using online media. It was easy to find someone and deliver message and any notice of assignment submission. WhatsApp: During using messenger we have faced some problem like unwanted message during class time, have hazard notification during conversation and also sending or receiving a file with greater size was not easy so we then transferred to whatsapp. It was feasible to communicate and uploading or downloading file through whatsapp and student can The Green Volunteers easily upload picture of home task and student from remote area can easily handle it with slow net. Now most popularly used online platform is zoom because of its user friendly interface just through code sharing can connect teachers with his student and also it consume less mb as it is bug free. Gmail: During whatsapp use we have faced another problem that we cannot send a file having size greater than 25 mb. So for this any file greater than 25 mb used to send through Gmail and student also used Gmail for sending their assignment. Also Gmail is mostly used formal medium of online communication for office mail, corporate mail or any personal mail communication system. And also having a Gmail account give facility a user to use different apps of google platform like google meet, google classroom google calendar etc. Zoom: Zoom app is very much handy for taking class and for conferencing. We used zoom for our faculty meeting, teacher’s conferencing. It is so handy that a lot of people can connect at a time now 200 people can add in a same Google meet: It is a app from google platform. It has popularity both using from smart phone and computer as it is a short size mobile app so we suggested our students to download it from plat store and during our class I used to start meeting and send the link in whatsapp group through which all student were added with me and we could made a successful online class while any student or teacher could share screen or could present any presentation. It has also messaging facility and I can control the student who can say or who cannot. Google classroom: This is the most amazing feature app from google with higher rate of different facility to conduct a successful online class. It’s also easy to set up a google classroom. Teachers share code with the class. That’s all it takes to create a virtual classroom. Teacher can post anything or can upload an audio, video file, word or pdf file and can share link even if can share video from YouTube. There are great variety of option present here for smooth functioning of online class as google meet can connect with this app so when I want to make conference with my student I can open google meet from google classroom. The most important unique feature I have found here is the facility of making different online question paper where I can multiple question paper or assignment and can make post by setting a particular time and date according to this students are notified .We can supple manual question paper or google formed question paper and we can manage different class for different course from same account just student of different batch will get different code to join the class. their university education and secession. So from our university we the teacher tried our best to find out the better way of conducting online class and through trial and error and sharing experienced finally we can conduct our class smoothly though the student from remote area are faced slow net but its far better than initial time. We have used several medium but mainly we conduct class through google classroom and google meet for online live class, we provide video sometime audio and also Facebook for quicker communication and for taking exam we have use google question paper, assignment and sometimes student give handwriting home task picture on whatsapp or messenger and also for online viva I prefer messenger where group members participate in viva by single person one after another. So that was the total experienced and also I think it shows the rest of the online education system running present time in our country Bangladesh where teachers from different institution and our government are trying hard for proper functioning of student learning process and we are very much hopeful that one day this worldwide crisis COVID 19 will be removed and our student will again back to their school, college and universities. Depression, like many other traits of man have always been clinically overlooked in most of the countries. Suicides on the other hand is not something that any government has dared to trifle with. Hence, we find in our interest to seek out the causes and methods of possible recovery from depression, thus reducing the cases of suicides. That being said, suicides are not the only outcomes of depression. Marital discord, child abuse, rape cases and most importantly a rapid rise of drug addicts are the possible miseries that depression bring with it. Loneliness however is a different issue, still loneliness seems to have a close relationship with depression. Depression and loneliness creates a cycle of cause and effect. But recent case studies proves The Green Volunteers Now coming to the causes of depression, we are introduced to the concept of the ‘vicious cycle of mental mania’. This is such a cycle where the factors and effects are interchangeable. That means any effect of mental disturbance, be it psychological or biological will serve as the cause of further mental disturbance. Thus developing an interchangeable relationship between the causes and effect of mental instability creating a loop, which in normal sense seems to be unbreakable. Considering this factor many people focus on avoiding this cycle rather than treating it. Now loneliness is a complete different idea which may always not co-relate to depression. It is not essential for a lone person to be depressed. Because loneliness, sometimes acts as a engaging factor of perseverance. However, in most of the cases a lone person turns out to be Volume 3 Issue 1 (2020) 65 Asian Network of Youth Volunteers Society ARTICLE depressed. Now again most of us have a misconception that a lone person is always friendless.
