1. PLANTS AROUND US GRADE: 1 SUBJECT: EVS TIME: 5 Periods AIM: To learn about different types of plants around us (Trees, Grass, Climbers, Creepers). OBJECTIVES: To recognise that plants are of different sizes. To name and describe some plants. To know that plants grow in different places. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOME: Students are able to understand that plants are of different sizes. Students are able to name some of the plants and describe their features. Students are able to understand and name some plants that grow in different places i.e., Water, land (Hot and Cold places). METHODOLOGY: S.NO CONCEPT 1. Introduction to plants STRATEGIES DESCRIPTION Mind opener Teacher asks the following questions to the students, 1. Have you been to a garden/park? 2. What did you see there? 3. Do all plants look alike? 4. Can you think of any differences? 5. Can you name some animals that live on trees? Nature walk Teacher list down their response on the board. Ans: A money plant will require support to help it grow. 1. Can plants grow in water? Yes, Plants can grow in water. Example: Lily, Lotus 2. Can a lotus live in a hot place with very little water? Every plant species is adapted via evolution to the environment in which it grows. Lotus grows in the wettest environment such as in lakes ponds etc. whereas in deserts no pond or lake is available and it remains dry. Hence, lotus cannot grow in such environment. 3. Can a water lily grow in a place where a cactus grows? Water lily needs water to grow and cactus plant grow in hot places/deserts have little or no water, so a water lily cannot grow there. 4. Name a plant that can grow in cold places. Fir trees can grow in cold places.
