Shelly Campbell. Educational Philosophy According to Plato, an educator is like a torch bearer who leads a man out of a dark cave into the bright light. It is my philosophy that a teacher plays a significant role in nation building and the success of any society depends on the teacher. A philosophy presents opportunities for investigation, analysis and development of ideas to decide: the how, what, and why of education. As an educator, my philosophy guides my educational intentions and activities to create a better society; with a view of educating children not for present but to improve the future condition of our country and by extension the world. Since society is not static education must constantly evolve to benefit society. I believe that as an educator I must persistently examine my methods, purpose and role to produce holistically educated learners. I also believe that educators must have a good understanding of the purpose and nature of educational ideals and thus sets realistic objectives and seeks to employ the most effective method of reaching students. An educational philosophy legitimizes one as a professional, making him/her a more effective educator thus lifting the educational achievement of students and increasing the possibility of a better tomorrow. Educators facilitate students’ maximizing the development of their God given potential thus becoming the best they can be. Educators in catering to students’ needs, understand that students are full of potential thus value their opinions and challenging them to seek and answer their own questions. To effectively facilitate the teaching learning process proper preparation and planning is a must.
