Brave New World, End (Chapters 16-18)
This novel was written in 1932. What aspects of the society seem to have come
true, or partially come true, in modern life today? Choose two or three and write
about them.
First, Bokanovsky’s process, which is a foundation of this brave new world, doesn’t
become true. The technology that one egg cell is being divided into thousands of cells and
grown-up to ten thousand adults was impossible since 1932. However, a woman who wants to
have an ideal type of her baby can now use a sperm bank to pick the sperm she wants. If she
wants a blond hair and blue eye daughter, she can pick a man’s sperm who has blond and blue
eyes. This is a closeness type of Bokanovsky’s process because women can control the human’s
birth.
Second, feelies are films, which are experienced through sight and sound, and touch. The
audience can smell and even touch the movie. Feelies’ technology is not fully developed in the
modern days we live in now. However, we have 4DX and VR movies, which is similar type of
feelies. In the 4DX movie theater, people can experience the smell or various effects of the
movie. Also, people can touch and feel like real if they wear VR devices. So, we can know that
some of the ideas in this book partially come true in our modern life.
