How did you start the business and why did you choose it? Interviewer 1: So basically maam you started po. Because you used to work at hardware stores? Interviewer 1: Ok yes maam. So we will proceed to the next question po maam C. INTERVIEW QUESTION 2 Interviewer 2: Second question okay ma'am how long have you been into this kind of business industry we would love to hear a lit little of of you story. Interviewee: Ahh ano na kami eh twelve mag twetwelve years ay mag teten years na kami with this 2022 uhm nag start ako ng noon ng pakonti konti nga lng diba sinabe ko tapos uhm ang ano ko nyan puhunan ay ay inutang ko saking boss hahaha inutang ko lng siya kasi wala naman gaanong kaming naipon ganun lang tapos ng habang tumatagal ay nakakaipon ako ng ano ng uhhmm pampadagdag pa kumbaga diba 65,000 yung ano ko yung puhunan so nakakaipon kami nagdagdag nagdagdag nakakabili narin kami ng mga sasakyan dati kasi walk in walk in lang diba nung time nayun nagdagdag na within 1 year 2 year habang tumatagal syempre nakakabili na kami ng mga lupa na may sariling gawan namen ng sariling store atsaka yung naimpok ng pagawa ng bahay ganun tapos habang tumatagal ay edi di bumibili na kami ng sasakyan yung malalaking construction na yung aming ano binebenta. INTERVIEW QUESTION 3 Interviewer 3: Uhmm what were the biggest obstacle have you encountered in your business and how have you overcome those? Interviewee: Uhmm siguro yung pandemic yun yung pinaka biggest obstacle nangyare sa business lahat naman diba uhmm at mabuti pa nga yung saamen kasi ahh kahit papaano nakakabenta kami hindi katulad ng iba close talaga pero malaking bagay talaga yung nawala kumbaga diba nag close ng within the month syempre kailangan mo dun marami kang iniisued cheke maraming papasok pero walang papasok na mga cheke kaso lang walang pumapasok na pera kasi close diba bawal lumabas ayun. Interviewer 3: Yes po, ma'am uhm for me po advan you have advantage than other businesses like stores because your store uhm your store that you are ano po they don't have expiration date like foods right Interviewee: Ahh okay Interviewer 3: That being save for a long time like even though they will not buy. broken or destroyed, right maam? Like that of uh... Interviewee: Tama, oo. Interviewer 3: Yes, and because lately maam, we have been, we have a hardware but eventually it went bankrupt because, uhm what you call "pautang". My lola is "mapautang". That's why. Interviewee: Ah, oo. Yun talaga yung problema pag business. Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester Interviewer 3: Maam in additinal po, last question uhh what will you do po if like, binayaran, if they pay you check then talbog po yung cheque? Interviewer 3: Eh what if po kung yung mga cus- your customer po, they pay you check? Yun po yung.. Interviewee: Ah okay, tapos tumalbog? Interviewer 3 - What will you do po? Interviewee: Edi, sisingilin, kung wgat we call that "pautang". Ayun, sisingilin nalang ng cash, kasi tumalbog yung cheque. Interviewer 3- Ah. Okay, okay. Uhm, we'll go to the next question po. Ethan. E. INTERVIEW QUESTION 4 Interviewer 1: Our next question, how do you motivate your employees/team, and boost morale? Kumbaga, ako naman nagseserve ako sa kanila ng pagkain, almusal, tanghalian at merienda. tapos kung wala silang bahay, kapag wala silang bahay meron akong pinapatirang bahay dito na libre ganon, gumawa talaga kami para sakanila Interviewer 1: That's great po ma'am, that's very generous of you, uh would you like to add with the your, with the question? or we’ll proceed? F. INTERVIEW QUESTION 5 Interviewer 2: Maybe we can proceed to the next question question, is like the same question the previous, how you handle the problems of your employee or stuff. Interviewee: Ahh, pag may mga problema hahaha siguro ay yung mga problema nila is because of money o diba kumbaga ano lang "bali" ganon, pinagbibigyan ko naman sila, kase ayoko naman na, gusto ko naman sya umasenso, baka mamaya mangutang pa sa ibang tao diba atsaka Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester wala namang nagaaaway sakanila kase kami naman ayaw namin may naga away mga employee ayaw kong may nagsisiraan ganon. Interviewer 1: That's, that's great ma'am that there are no arguments happening within the employees of your business, but may I ask if the money that has been borrowed from you have they repaid that in turn? Interviewee: Ahh kumbaga paunti unti ko binabawas sa sweldo nila, depende kung gusto nilang ano, oh babawasan na nating itong sweldo magkano ibabawas ko sa bali mo ganon , pag sinabi nyang 500 de 500, kapag sinabing 200 ganon na (laughs) Interviewer 1: All right ma’am, we'll proceed with the next question Interviewer 3: Ah ma'am ask ko lang, I'm gonna ask lang po uhh your business running for like nine years right? uh do you have uh ano po ba uhm problems with your employees like yung binubulsa yung gamit and ibebenta ng mura sa iba. Interviewer 1: Yes ma’am we truly understand that term, and when we and my opinion when we say leader we have each other, we have our employees unlike we say boss, right ma’am? Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester ahhh we boss people around, we demand things from them am i right ma’am? Soooo….. Ahhhh pardon Interviewee- Pardon me Interviewer 1: Ahhh like what i said po ma’am, uhmmm being a leader is like you’re, you’re willing to help your employees, you’re willing help people around, unlike being a boss you have, you are demanding, you are asking, you’re demanding for things, you’re being bossy with your employees, so what resembling in your business as a leader that’s truly amazing and hopefully, ahhh are people there around you will be maybe fired. Interviewee: Ahhhh Interviewer 1: Uhmmmm, next question am i next cali? Interviewer 2: Yes Interviewee: Next question H. INTERVIEW QUESTION 7 Interviewer 2: How do you monitor the performance of the people that you lead? Interviewee: Ay ano ba sagutin ko ba kay sir Samaniego or saiyo? Interviewer 1: I was just pertaining my opinion. Interviewee: Ay okay sige Interviewer 1: Cali sige proceed number is Interviewer 2: Like what i said how do you monitor the performance of the people that you lead Interviewee: Ahhh, sa araw araw nilang gawain, and everyday performance, kumbaga, arawaraw deliver naman, wala namang problema sa delivery, kumabaga minsan nag kakamali din ang Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester tauhan ko, edi next time nalang, ayusin nalang sa susunod di naman ako sakanila nagagalit ehhh, kumbaga ano lang minsan pinagsasabihan lang ganon lang I. INTERVIEW QUESTION 8 Interviewer 1: Right ma’am, ahhh next question what values are most important to you as a leader Interviewee: Most important? Interviewer 1: Yes, important values, you had as a leadeR Interviewee: Ahh, values. As a leader, kelangan mong.. maging ano.. maging patient always. Laging pasensya pasensya. The interviewees were asked first for their permission to take a photo and they gave their permission to do so. A link is also provided for the access of the actual interview session. An extensive interview session yielded many valuable insights for our team, which we will employ as we begin our adventure into this industry. It's a known fact that over thirty percent of startups fail within two years. This isn't meant to scare you into avoiding starting your own business but to showcase the reality of entrepreneurship. Successful entrepreneurship involves taking risks. (Genever,2021). There is no way to know if a chance will pay off, even if it is calculated. However, it would be best if you were not afraid to take risks. If you want your business to succeed, you must take chances. That's how Mrs. Puig sees the adventure of starting your own business, a long journey with endless risk along the way. She has been managing her business, 5576 Trading, for years already, and as she shared some of her experiences, we gained lots of inspiration and knowledge. From the time she was just working until she set up her own business was very heartening. Listed here are the specific thoughts and feelings of everyone in our group following the interview. A. Ma. Katrina Mae B. Basaen’s Individual Reflection Paper For an organization or a corporation to succeed, it must have an effective leader. A firm's success depends on its leaders' ability to set and achieve an agreed-upon goal for its success. Leaders are essential in establishing and expressing new strategic directions and communicating with and encouraging people to strengthen their commitment to company goals. You see how important leadership is when it comes to operating a business or organization. Being a leader Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester comes with massive responsibility, and when you decide to be one, you have to get ready for the roller coaster ride. After watching the interview and hearing Mrs. Lani Puig's answers to all of our questions, that is the knowledge I grasped. When she entered the business world, all she had was not so much knowledge about the line of business she was trying to enter, which is a hardware store. She was employed for many years before she took a shift, and for me, that was a brave act. She had to adjust herself, and because she took the risk and ventured off into the unknown, the path she took led her to become the business owner she is right now. We wrapped up the training with the Thought Leadership Presentation. Such an excellent conclusion allowed us to gain ideas from Mrs. Puig as she went on her leadership journey. As she was able to soar, my groupmates and I had a vision of what the future holds for us, thanks to all the experiences shared by the interviewee. We've also learned about money management from her. That saving and borrowing money wisely is a must. We also learned a lot about how we should treat our future staff. We must consider their well-being as seriously as we do our business because they are one of the reasons why your business is still on track. Without them, you wouldn't be able to keep your business going. They are the blocks that strengthen the wall of your business. When it comes to running a business, expect difficulties along the way. It happens, and it will have a significant impact on our ability to run our business. What we do and say must be linked to resolving a problem that has arisen, and it will determine whether or not we can lead exceptionally. However, if things don't go as you planned, that should not be the end of the road for you. We can attempt and try again till we achieve our dreams and turn them into goals. Hard work always pays off, and we don't have to worry about that when we effort. The prize is always going to be our success. B. Carlo Miguel Calilung’s Individual Reflection Paper As I reflected on the interview, I’ve learned so many ideas on how to start a business you just need to trust in yourself and face all the challenges in life. And always pray above to guide you on the right path. Ms. Lani will be my personal inspiration because she is just a Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester worker at the hardware back then, but she insists to be the boss and start her own business. She is just an example of hard work and perseverance. Nothing is impossible If you have clean intentions. And I realize life is like a tire, sometimes you are on the downside and sometimes you are up. You just need to focus so that you will achieve anything you want in life. The most memorable word she said is “always put your feet on the ground” and I felt that is her key to be more successful. C. Jacob Celajes’s Individual Reflection Paper They claim that leadership is a frivolous endeavor that I should avoid if I simply have a weak negative personality. If you are intimidated by people or are afraid of social situations with them, leadership is not for you. It necessitates a tremendous deal of your time, effort, and commitment. Leadership is not for you if you are egotistical. These unfavorable remarks may appear frightening and instill fear in you. However, if you only try to be a leader once in your life, this is not the case. You can give up and discover who you really are if you see that it doesn't match you or you don't have the conviction that leaders have. But the point is that we should try every now and then. You're taking a risk, just like a businessman, when you try anything new. It may or may not be valuable, but the essential thing is that you tried and experienced it. Just as our interviewee did as he progressed through his business venture. The Thought Leadership Presentation was an excellent way to conclude the class. It was a fantastic conclusion exercise since it allowed us to witness insights from leaders as they progressed along the leadership journey. My organization and I have predicted the future we can have through these company leaders, just as they were able to fly high in their business. Our interviewee also provided us with many recommendations, such as money management. That you should save or even borrow money wisely. In addition, we learned a lot about how to handle our staff in the future. We need to be as concerned about their well-being as we are about our business. They will, after all, serve as the foundation for our piece of art. When we have business, difficulties are often regarded to be a natural setting. It happens, and it largely determines how well we manage our business. When a problem arises, for example, our decisions and actions should be directed toward Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester resolving the issue. And it will be on this foundation that we will determine if we are capable of outstanding leadership or not. This, however, should not be our final destination. We may always attempt again and again until we achieve the person we desire. Hard work always pays off, and we shouldn't be concerned about that when we put in the effort. There will always be a prize, and our achievement will be that prize. As I previously stated, the exercise was an excellent way for us to put what we learned in our Leadership and Decision-Making course into practice. We were compelled to do business sooner or later after seeing their perspectives and thoughts. This opportunity or endeavor will be remembered as something that helped a portion of me grow and adopt a new mentality. Many individuals crave money, and I am one among them. But I've witnessed firsthand how business isn't only about making money. It everything comes down to you, your choices, your leadership, and your followers. It is not all about profit, albeit that is what you are doing right now, and I have seen that business is not all about profit. Business and leadership are two phrases that are intertwined. If there is a leadership failure, the business will not run. However, while leadership may remain static, the business environment is analogous to a goal. Without a specific aim, leadership isn't leadership. That is what I have discovered during this activity. It was instructive and provided me with useful information. D. Shannen Lopez’s Individual Reflection Paper According to Keith Davis, “Leadership is the ability to persuade others to seek defined objectives enthusiastically. It is the human factor which binds a group together and motivates it towards goals.” Leadership takes on many dimensions and encompasses many definitions. Organizations of all kinds focus on leadership as a vital concept necessary for success. Everyone talks about leadership, everyone says they want leadership, everyone prioritizes leadership. Leadership and decision making are skills that make up a business. Through the process of The Thought Leadership Presentation, I have learned a lot about other leaders' experiences and mindset. Our interviewee, Mrs. Lani V. Puig, is a business owner owning a hardware store. Knowing how she handles her business and her team; it is seen that she is a good leader that cares about the well-being of her followers. I learned from her that being a boss, or a leader does not mean that you are entitled to only delegate tasks to your subordinates, but also to work with them and treat them as equals having the same goal as you do. Being a Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester leader also means making decisions that will benefit your business and your subordinates, just like how Mrs. Puig made level-headed decisions, especially when it came to financial matters for her business. Though there are many types of leadership styles, I can see myself being like her if I ever have my own business in the future. I would like to be lead my followers the way she does and make sure they are also well taken care of, so that they would also do their best for my business. They say that experience is the best teacher, but as someone with little to no experience of handling a business, I can confidently say that we can also learn from other people's mistakes and experiences so that we would know what to do if ever we encounter the situations those people went through and relate them with our own. E. Murielle Faye Macapinlac’s Individual Reflection Paper A leader has various responsibilities; hence he is responsible for a wide range of tasks. That is why being a leader is such a difficult task. To become excellent leaders, aspiring leaders must acquire the necessary talents. A strong leader must have persistence, fortitude, and the ability to be always attentive and sensitive. After all this, I have learned that leadership is significantly more fundamental and simpler than we commonly believe. To be effective, leadership needs the acquisition of desirable competencies. There may be constituents along the route who would wreak havoc on the systemized and principle plan that one has developed, but nothing is impossible with the enormous power of conceptual talents and character working together. That is the knowledge I gained after watching the interview and hearing Mrs. Puig's responses to all our queries. When she first entered the business sector, she didn't know much about the industry she wanted to work in, which was a hardware shop. She took a chance and walked into the unknown, which eventually led her to the road of becoming a successful businesswoman, and even though your plan doesn't come thru as planned we shouldn't be afraid to try again for as Wes Moore said "Failing doesn't make us a failure but not trying to do better, to be better, does make us fool” F. Ethan Josh Samaniego’s Individual Reflection Paper Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester Leadership is a hard task that we need to take a good care of. We need excellent handling of our people, our profits and of course the whole business itself. It also takes a lot of energy and time from us, but this should not stop us from achieving our goals. It also takes a good and wellprocessed decision whenever we decide for our business. Business as we all know is a sibling of risk. Whenever we do business, we always take a risk. We risk something such as our capital as well as our efforts and energy. And of course, business is not all about having a great amount of money, we need to be wise so that we could make competent decisions so that we could keep that great amount of money, not just for us, but for the people who believe on us. This requirement allowed us to interview a successful leader. It allowed us to ask about a successful leader’s viewpoint of his or her business. And as someone who was able to hear Mrs. Puig, we gained more wisdom trough her shared experiences to us. She mainly pointed out about her struggles on her business. Which according is really a must and there will be a time when challenges on your business will paralyze your one leg and arm. And it feels like somehow a bit painful on someone’s feelings. Though these are just challenges, we should not just settle our mindset on it. Your business should not stop even though you face millions of failures. You should always believe in yourself and try new strategies on your business. She pointed out on being wise when handling company budget and profit. It is important to have a separate department on profit handling as well as money handling. It is because this will allow us to monitor our incomes and how much we benefited from it. Overall, we learned so much from it. And now, my plans would be to use these knowledge and advice I was able to learn from this requirement. When I plan a business someday, it is important to have a strategic as well as organized distribution of works. Most importantly is to handle people effectively. As someone who was able to interview Mrs. Puig, I am honored to meet a successful person like her. Her business prospered by how she was able to manage it for quite some time. Her advice on me would remain forever and will make sure to use it whenever times would be difficult. This kind of task would allow us students to properly manage and prepare for our future as Marketers. I hope one day, we will be successful just like her. I wish for her business to grow beautiful and will be able to prosper as time continues. Therefore, I could say that as a student, these will be my Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester initial plan as well as a great lesson to keep forever. It is such an honor to take this chance to gather advice and insights regarding our future journey. G. Carlito Vicente Jr.’s Individual Reflection Paper They say leadership is a trivial thing I should not try if I only have weak downside personality. If you feel intimidated by people, or you get scared socializing with them, it is sure that leadership is not for you. It takes great responsibility, accountability, and energy from you. If you are selfish, leadership is not for you. These negative comments may seem scary and trigger fear from you. But this is not really the case if you only try once in your life to be a leader. If you see that it does not fit on you, or you didn’t find the conviction that there is to leaders, you can give up and find who you really are. But the point here is, we need to try occasionally. Just like businessmen, as you try, you are risking something. It may be valuable or not at all, but the most important is, you tried, and you experienced it. Just like how our interviewee did as he go along to his business journey. The Thought Leadership Presentation was indeed a good wrap up for the course. It is such a good culmination task that enabled us to see insights from leaders as they take the leadership path. Just like how they were able to fly high on their business, me and my group mates have foreseen the future we can have through these business leaders. We also have gained different tips from our interviewee such as money management. That you need to be wise in saving or even loaning money. We also learned greatly about how we should treat our employees in the future. We need to treat their welfare as much as we take care of the business. After all, they will be the foundation of our work of art. Difficulties also were said to be a natural setting when we have business. It occurs and mostly it will determine how we were able to manage our business. For example, a problem occurs, our decisions and actions should be aligned to the goal of giving resolution to that problem. And that will be the basis whether we will be able to lead exceptionally or not. However, this should not be our end point. We can always try and try until we become that person we want to be. Hard work always pays off, and that is something we shouldn’t worry whenever we work hard. There will always be prize, and that prize will be our success. Course Code MGT101 Course Title Leadership and Decision Making AY 2021-2022 Term 1st Semester As I was saying, the task was a good culmination for us to see in real life scenarios the things we have learned in our course Leadership and Decision Making. As we have seen their views and insights, we were kind of persuaded to do business sooner or later. I will take this opportunity or task as something that helped a part of me grow and have a different mindset. Many people want money, I also want money. But I have seen how business is not all about money. It is you, your decisions, your leadership, and your followers. It is not all about profiting, though what you are doing as of now is to make profit, but I have seen that business is not just about profiting. Leadership and business are two terms that are interconnected. Business won’t run if there is a failure in leadership. However, leadership may stand still but the context of business is like a goal. Leadership won’t be leadership without a certain goal. That is what I have learned throughout this activity. It was educational and helped me to gain valuable insights. Acknowledgement The completion of this undertaking could not have been possible without the participation and assistance of so many people whose names may not all be enumerated. Their contributions are sincerely appreciated and gratefully acknowledged. However, the group would like to express their deep appreciation and indebtedness particularly to the following: To their Leadership and Decision-Making professor, Dr. Leonardo Cada F. Puig, who participated in this study and gave her time to share knowledge and experience as a business owner. Her response and input are the key centerpiece in developing insights and learning that the students learned from this requirement. To all relatives, and friends, and others who in one way or another shared their support, either morally, physically, or financially, thank you. Above all, to the Great Almighty, the author of knowledge and wisdom for his countless love and goodness. We thank you.
