Your task is to rewrite a scene from the novel from his point of view. Consider his thoughts, feelings, behavior and attitudes. It would be easy to paint him as a stereotypical villain, but as we’ve seen from exploring other characters, this is not real. Try to create a real, flawed human being. Julian Extension Work Julian: Character Backstory Julian is one of Auggie’s biggest obstacles at Beecher Prep. He’s rude to Auggie and makes other kids feel like they have to be, too. He’s an only child, and his popularity at school is really important to him, which is part of why he was so mean to Auggie. When we meet his parents in the film, we see where some of the negative and judgmental influences have come from. In the end he comes round to Auggie and seems to feel regret for his behaviour. Julian: Character Backstory Julian is a key obstacle for Auggie and an instigator of confrontation and conflict in Wonder. Your task is to write three chapters from the perspective of Julian. Include the following: His thoughts on Auggie before, during, and after the events of the book/movie His relationship with his parents and how that impacted his behaviour (remember how his mum reacted to Auggie joining the school?!) Give Julian some vulnerability. He is always portrayed as a simple villain but perhaps there’s more going on behind the scenes.
